We always like to stay at the Douglas Fir. The prices are good and we love the water slides, outdoor hot tub and the wood fireplaces. Sadly this trip the outdoor hot tub was not very hot, the indoor hot tub was closed and we got a gas fireplace in our sweet. They also have a sauna and second indoor pool, all of which have been closed for years. The saddest about this trip was the slide attendant in the morning. The girl was extremely officious. We get that she has a job to do, but she would actually come around and scold patrons about watching their kids or riding the slides the wrong way. It was just too much.

The room size and layout was great for me, parking was right to the room, and I appreciated the firewood provided nearby as well. The location was very quiet and had easy shuttle access, you will be provided with shuttle passes. The room was dated and worn, but it's to be expected for the price, so I can't complain about that, especially for a seasonal place. Unfortunately that's where the good part ends, here is what I had issues with. Room cleanliness and functionality was an issue, there were three different lights that were burnt out in the room. We saw gum wrappers in the drawer next to the bed, the microwave was busted, a lamp cord was broken, the hair dryer was falling off the wall, no TV remote, etc. Additionally, the staff were dour and curt - I get it, work sucks and you're probably dealing with painful seasonal customers, but lighten up a bit. I also understand that in order to have fully renovated and updated accommodations, it would require large expenditures and the room rates would increase dramatically so I get that part, however I do expect that the room is functioning and clean as that is what I paid for.

Honestly i really wanted to leave a good review as our stay the year prior was excellent which deemed us to come back for the great experience. I cant say the same for this year. First of all, either the stack for the chimney was plugged or the wood they provided was old so we werent able to enjoy a fire, instead the smoke alarms kept going off and our fire would be out within an hour. Secondly, we loved the outdoor hottub. This year the hot tub was luke warm at best and was unbearable to sit in. Also, the rooms were not restocked with toilet paper and coffee each day and the beds were thrown together. I do want to recognize that the property did accomodate us for the loss of these amenities. Unfortunately our annual girls trip to banff will not include staying at the Douglas Fir Resort in the future.

I loved the cabin atmosphere, was disappointed that the pool was closed since that was the main reason we stayed there and I even called ahead to make sure they were operational. There should have been a phone call made to all customers coming In that day about the issue but we were given a discount. Could be updated but otherwise it was a good stay.
