Heysen Hideaway - Adelaide Hills

Heysen Hideaway is a quiet, self-contained 3 bedroom cottage with views over the Adelaide Hills. Located on the Heysen and Yurrebilla Trails, it is perfect for walking enthusiasts. Cycling trails for both road and mountain bikes are also within close proximity to the cottage. If culinary experiences are more to your taste, you will be spoiled for choice with wineries, microbreweries, distilleries, cheese and chocolate producers, fruit picking, roadside produce stalls, country pubs and delicious cafes all within a short walk or drive. In such a stunning setting, it is easy to forget you are only 20 minutes from the centre of Adelaide.

Ideal for up to 3 couples or equally suitable for a family getaway, the cottage contains a large kitchen with full cooking facilities and an adjoining dining table that seats up to eight people.

For a single night stay, tea, coffee pods, milk, juice, cereal, bread and local jams are supplied. Stays of 2 or more nights enjoy the addition of bacon and eggs.

Two comfortable living areas provide ample seating and both contain a TV, one with DVD player. The three bedrooms comprise a king bed, queen bed and two king single beds. The bedroom with the super king singles is accessed via the queen bedroom.

Heated by a combustion wood heater and two split system units for heating and cooling, the cottage is comfortable all year round. For those that like a toasty warm bed to snuggle into, each bed also has an electric blanket.

The bathroom contains a large walk in shower and has hairdryer provided. A washing machine, clothes dryer, ironing facilities and clothes airer are located in the laundry and available for your use. Games, DVDs, toys and a highchair are permanently located in the cottage with a cot available on request.

Outside there are two sheltered courtyards overlooking the mature gardens, outdoor table setting, BBQ, cubby house, clothesline and ample off-street parking. You can also say hello to the 2 friendly alpacas (Stewart and Dumpling) and the minature sheep (Posset and Wellington) over the back fence.

Heysen Hideaway dates from the 1860’s and pre-dates the township of Summertown itself. It is the last of three cottages built to accommodate the market gardeners who produced fruit and vegetables for the expanding new city of Adelaide. Built from local materials, the walls are constructed of a combination of creek stones and mud. The window frames and ceilings in the old part of the cottage are original with a sympathetic extension being added to the rear of the cottage in the 1970’s. Whilst so much of the cottage is original, the rooms are light, bright, warm and quiet – the perfect location for a home away from home.

Lovely little property with a lovely garden. Bit steep for my 87yr old Mum to wander. Very comfortable and a great place to just unwind, relax or finish that pair of socks you are knitting. Great area if you want to check out the wineries or go for some lovely drives.

So happy to be back here!
We were so happy to be back after 7 years! It felt as if we were back home! My favourite part of the house is of course the fully-equipped kitchen; a motivation to cook healthy food for the family although we were on vacation. The simple Christmas decor added to the festive spirit. It was definitely awesome to wake up to see the cute alpacas and sheep out in the field having their breakfast haha. We miss those darlings! (We are still trying to figure out which one is Stewart and which is Dumpling haha!) Heysen Hideaway is at the countryside but yet close to the city. Peaceful. Very calming. Perfect place for our special needs son too. Thank you so much for sharing the home with us. Will be back, hopefully not too long :) Nasyita, Brian and Idrees :)

Perfect Holiday Place
A very peaceful, clean, and cozy place to stay with such a beautiful garden. Love waking up with the sounds of a crowing rooster and chirping birds. Stunning sunrise. We cooked a yummy breakfast from the bread, egg, bacon, and mushroom that is provided. Perfect place to have some rest. Thanks you.

My Daughters Wedding
The Heysen Hideaway was very well presented. Very tidy and clean. There was plenty of bedding to suite our requirements. Rooms were of good size. Separate toilet to the bathroom is a big plus. Wood fire was a big hit as it was cold. Childs toys on site were well enjoyed by grandson. Only one minor issue was traffic noise using the road as a racetrack into the early hours of the morning.

A lovely property that provided all we needed for a long weekend in the Hills. Beautiful decor, all the comforts of home and a thoughtful selection of breakfast goodies left for us to enjoy. Such a good spot to branch out from and sample all the Adelaide Hills has to offer.

Very charming house in the Hills
We enjoyed the Hideaway in perfect summery March weather, there's lots of space and two living areas to relax. The kitchen is well equiped, the beautiful garden and location in the Hills are a bonus. Short drive to wineries and only a 5 minute drive to at least 3 good restaurants (Scenic and Urailda Hotels are top), some walking options nearby. For people (like me) who like sleeping with open windows, mozzie screens in the bedroom could be a nice addition.
