Having just travelled through South America I was looking forward to an Australian quality hostel. I booked a private room which is separate to the main building. It was so bad that I cancelled my remaining two nights stay.
Firstly there was no towel in the room & the bed wasn’t made. Apparently towels are ‘for hire’ so I had to cross the four lane busy road back to the main hostel to get one.
Secondly, the electronic security key would not work when I got back late at night (11pm). Again, I had to walk across the four lane busy road, in the rain, and phone the after hours emergency numbers to get a new room key programmed. This ordeal took about an hour.
Thirdly, there was no hot water the next morning in any of the showers. Again, I was asked to cross the busy four lane road and use the showers in the backpackers.
I could see that the hot water service may not be repaired quickly and if had enough of these third world standards so I asked for my money back and checked out. The angry British girl in the front desk tried to refuse a full refund saying it was ‘against policy’. I told her it wasn’t a cancelation due to change of mind, it was due to dissatisfaction. She was unbelievably rude and hostile and reluctantly refunded some (not all) of my subsequent prepaid nights.
I’ve travelled to all corners of the globe - from Kampala in Uganda to San Pedro Chile In the Atacama Desert. This is the worst hostel I’ve stayed in.
