Waihi stays as unique as you are

Accommodation In Waihi

Waihi is located at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula and well known for its "heart of gold", as it is home to the richest gold mine in New Zealand. Stay in our Waihi accommodation and experience the relics of a gold mining past in a modern mining town.

A Waihi hotel offers a backdrop of rich landscapes and scenery from the rolling green hills that become white sandy beaches lapped by clear blue waters, to the long flat plains that give way to the sheer cliffs of the coast and the rugged gorges of the forest.

The pristine coast offers many excellent places to swim from the surf of Waihi Beach to the calmer waters and lagoon at Whiritoa - there are plenty of options when staying in one of our Waihi hotels. If you are looking to take in some fishing cast a line at the beach or head inland to the magnificent Karangahake Gorge or the Waitawheta River and try your luck trout fishing.

Off the coast is also where you can find some fantastic walks and trails through the Karangahake Reserve. The town of Waihi is very proud of its golden heritage and a stay in our accommodation in Waihi would not be complete without a visit to the now closed Golden Cross Mine to see the remnants of its mining days or the Martha Gold Mine, which still operates today.
