Your own castle... with log burning stove, snooker room, fully modern kitchen and bathrooms. Originally a fortified village refuge, built in around AD1250, this beautiful Grade 2* historically listed tower has been recently brought up to full modern comfort, but still with a barrel-vaulted basement (with full sized snooker table), large carved stone fireplace and modern kitchen.
We also have the attached stone cottage for rental (property number 8926894 https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p8926894?uni_id=4994382 ) if you have a larger party.
It's positioned beautifully in Whittingham Vale, in the middle of its village. Eight miles (12km) from Alnwick with its famous gardens - and the castle which stood in for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. 12 miles from Alnmouth and the beaches. It's just next to Thrunton woods for keen mountain bikers, and the Cheviot Hills for walkers and hikers. Rothbury and Cragside are nearby.
Further afield is the whole of the coast and castles of Northumberland : from Tynemouth Priory in the south, through Druridge Bay, Amble, Alnmouth, Craster, Dunstanburgh castle, Seahouses, Bamburgh bay and castle, through to Lindisfarne and Berwick. The border country is wild and open - you will be just on the edge of the Dark Skies national park, which leads to some great views of the Milky Way and good viewing of shooting stars, even the occasional showing of the Northern Lights.
It's fully equipped inside. The main living floor is the first floor (the ground floor is a fortified barrel vaulted room with no windows - but a full size snooker table). The kitchen has a wine fridge, large American style fridge-freezer with icemaker, induction hob, Miele double oven, microwave, platewarming ovens, and the usual dishwasher and washing machine (the drier is in the snooker room).
The main living room is a large room, with comfortable space for everybody with classic Bergere suite and leather chesterfield, a old family heirloom Grandfather clock and a log burning stove (we leave a starter basket of logs to get you going). Curl up with a book, watch a movie, chat by the log fire.
On the second floor lie the three bedrooms, family and ensuite bathrooms. These consist of one double room, one twin (which can be set up as a superking size double), the family bathroom, with large high pressure shower and double ended slipper bath, and the master bedroom. This has a superking size four-poster bed for the romantics amongst you. Off this is a dressing room - which can accommodate either a travel cot or a temporary bed for a seventh guest (both available on demand) - and an ensuite bathroom, again with high pressure shower with body jets.
Don't expect people to breakfast early - it's very, very quiet !
Outside is simple - a terrace, a large gravelled parking area, and two lawns sloping towards the River Aln. There is an outside hose for muddy gear and mountain bikes, and a wooden table and chairs in the shed for outside dining in good weather
