Large private apartment in a traditional Greek village with stunning views.

The ā€˜House in the Sunā€™ is a large well equipped 55sqm apartment with 180 degree views of the foothills of the white mountains.
Located on the edge the sleepy village of Paidohori, the house is 15 minutes from the lovely sandy beach resorts of Kalyves and 20 minutes from Almyrida.
The nearest mini market, pharmacy and taverna are in Agioi Pantes which is a very short drive - or a longer stroll away.

The apartment has a well equipped full sized kitchen, generous double bed and a large living area which has a single sofa bed and/or a travel cot for additional guests if required, and a separate modern shower room and toilet. The apartment has a TV, DVD and Wifi.

The solar-heated salt water swimming pool is shared with the property owners.

Heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer are available if required.

Guests have sole use of a large private patio and a shaded seating area with amazing views.

The owners have 5 cats who enjoy greeting guests.

There are many interesting and varied walks around the area, along the coast, inland on the plains, or for the more adventurous into the mountains, all with stunning views and varied wildlife.
Several important archaeological sites are within easy reach by car.

Chania, the picturesque Venetian city with its historic harbour is a fabulous place to visit and stroll around the old town then eat by the waterfront or up the hidden side streets. It is only 30 minutes away by car or bus.

The village of Paidohori is situated between Chania and Rethymno. Chania airport is approximately 45 minutes away, and Heraklion airport is under 2 hours. We are 2-3 minutes from the Agioi Pantes junction on the national road.
There is public transport from Chania and Rethymno to Agioi Pantes on the national road where there is a taxi rank, however we would recommend guests hire a car.

The price includes a welcome pack of some bakery fruit and nut bars, a selection of 'in season' local fruit, milk, tea and coffee to make your first morning breakfast a relaxing experience,

Beautiful week in Crete
My husband and I had the best week in Crete, Chris and Kathy were the prefect hosts and very welcoming (and their cats were also very welcoming and friendly and gave the place a very homely feel). Wonderful week at a wonderful location
Kathy & Chris were fabulous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and their tips regards restaurants, places to visit and the general area were very helpful. Property is lovely, garden and pool gorgeous and views are just stunning. We had a very restful, comfortable and happy week, not doing an awful lot, other than fussing and playing with the cats who are so friendly. Thank you both for a wonderful week.

A lovely House in the Sun with great hosts, facilities and environment.
Our 3rd visit to Crete. This is a lovely, air-conditioned apartment, set in a quiet traditional village in a beautiful part of Crete. The views from the patio are stunning. The facilities provided within the apartment, and outside, were all we needed for our 9 night stay. The bed is very comfortable and the pool is everything it looks, maintained at a constant 30 Deg C. Within 30 minutes travel is the lovely seaside resort of Kalyves. There are many golden, sandy, beaches within easy reach. Chania airport and city are about 30 minutes drive as is a Lidl store. There are local shops and chemists within a few minutes drive. I advise hiring a car, in order to get the best from your stay. The hosts, Kathie and Chris are lovely people! They are extremely helpful, friendly and kind. The advice that they gave us on the local area was really helpful. Thank you both, so much, for everything! We thoroughly recommend thiis for a holiday to remember! Roly & Mandy Love.

More than expected
After reading the reviews and so many positive reviews we decided to book this place. Well all i can say is we were not disappointed very clean with all you need. Wonderful well kept gardens and a beautiful pool plenty of areas to enjoy the sun but also a lovely shaded area under the wisteria to escape from the heat but for me the best was the Wonderful views of the olive groves flanked my the white mountains stunning with only the sounds of a Greek summer and the occasional Greek music playing in the distance which only enhanced the experience. If you enjoy the quieter life this is a place i would highly recommend

This place isnā€™t for everyone, which doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m putting this place down, quite the opposite. If you love animals, especially cats, then come here (if you donā€™t like cats then donā€™t visit Greece!). If you love to be off the beaten track, but still close enough to not be totally cut off, then come here. If you want the option of being left to your own devices and I mean totally, no room service, no towel changes while you nap etc come here. We enjoyed the solitude, no noises bars, the long walks through rural villages, the peace and quiet (apart from the dogs, birds, goats etc) the lovely local villages with great Tavernas and warm welcomes. Yes this suited us perfectly and we are looking at returning soon, and WE NEVER do that to any place that weā€™ve visited before !

What a find!
We have just returned home after spending a fantastic, relaxing, 2 weeks with Kathie and Chris at The House in the sun. It really couldn't have been any better. Communication before our trip was spot on with extremely easy directions with pictures sent that made finding the apartment very easy. We arrived in the early hours and were welcomed by Alfie the cat who kept us company for our holiday. Fantastically well equipped, spotless apartment. Fantastic sitting area with amazing views and the pool!ā€¦ we spent a lot more time at the pool then we have done on any other holiday as we found it so relaxing. There is a great little village about 5 mins away with a well stocked shop, a great coffee place that do delicious cakes, a gyros shop and a lovely taverna serving amazing food. Lots of beach choices can be found without having to venture too far from base. Kathie and Chris are the perfect hosts with loads of advice available & laughs. We were even treated to a some quiet background music one day while they rehearsed for a gig they had locally that week. Would absolutely not hesitate to recommend the house in the sun to everyone and have already given all the details to a lot of our friends and family. For our trip in Crete we were looking for an easily accessible and central location in the countryside. What is great about the House in the sun is that even if you live among olive, orange and lemon trees, sheeps and goats and enjoy long walks from village to village in a rural environment, you are relatively close to everything by car. The appartement has met our expectations. It was perfect for 2 and had everything you need. Because we travelled early May, we did not use the pool, but we have enjoyed spending time on the private terrace which offers a gorgeous view of the surroundings. Our hosts were also great to interact with and very helpful. And the cats,ā€¦we fell in love with them. We highly recommand this place.

Kathy & Chris where what we would say the perfect hosts. I remembered at our arrival how Kathy said ā€˜we will be as present or absent as you guys wishā€™ ... and this rolled out perfectly, we enjoyed our privacy as much as we enjoyed the help and some talks with our host ... although little help was needed, everything was A-ok. The pool area and the privacy and comfort of our apartment were perfect. We used the place as an ideal homebase to discover the West of Crete ... but also for couples, families with small children that look for quietness in a peaceful and relaxing environment around the pool ... this is the perfect place. Warm and friendly greeting on arrival whilst adhering to hygiene measures in place ( most comforting ). Chris showed us round the property and left us to unpack at our leisure. We then sat and ate a light meal rustled up from groceries provided by prior arrangement with Kathie and Chris, which was very much appreciated as we had a very long day. The following morning we took in our vista from the terrace and were just in awe of the lovely property and the views. Our hosts were very welcoming, knowledgable and attentive whilst not being obtrusive. We felt very much at ease at the house in the sun, so much so that on a few days we felt no need to stray from the property as it had everything we needed to be able to sit and relax and enjoy the warmth of the Cretan sun and the beautiful surroundings of this idyllic property. We met as guests and hopefully left as friends and we canā€™t wait to return. We would highly recommend this property if youā€™re looking to get away from all the hubbub of city or even town life and just want to chill.

Wonderful stay!
The House in the Sun is a delight! A very comfortable and spacious apartment for 2 with everything you need (and more) provided. It was spotlessly clean, very nicely decorated and proportioned. Extra touches, like providing beach towels, very welcome especially as I forgot to bring any. Kathie and Chris are lovely hosts and very generous. The apartment is well placed for the beaches of northern Crete and for Chania and Rethimno, and enjoys a very tranquil position with beautiful views. Highly recommend a stay here, and will definitely return.

The apartment was exactly as shown in the photographs which is not always the case! It was extremely clean and was well equipped. The situation was idyllic, surrounded by olive, lemon and orange trees and provided the perfect chance for rest but within easy reach of Chania, beaches and good food. The owners, who live on the upper floor of the house, were very welcoming and it was fun to meet and get to know them. They were never intrusive though. This was our first visit to Crete and I hope it wonā€™t be our last.

Fabulous views and comfortable stay
We stayed here for five days and the view was always compelling; wild flowers, snow covered mountains. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The log burner was great with the cooler evenings. Kathie and Chris were knowledgeable and helpful. The apartment is well situated for visiting other places such as Chania which we loved.

We had a wonderful week staying in the House in the Sun. Kathy and Chris made us feel at home the moment we arrived. The flat is well equipped and really well planned. There were many thoughtful additions such as the welcome basket and beach towels. We really didn't want for anything. We were woken by the tinkling bells around the necks of the next door sheep and a wonderful sunrise every day. The view across the valley is full of all that Crete has in abundance, olives, figs, walnuts and showed us the path to walk to the next village where we came across a newly painted church to St Anthony. The local taverna is well worth a visit. The owners are helpful and the food is honest and very local. Vryses, the nearest town, is a very traditional town which has several small supermarkets and tavernas. Every day we did a trip in our hired car. We visited Chania and Rethymno, two towns with Venetian harbours, which are really attractive. The harbour in Chania was home to a very large turtle, which obliged us by doing a 'belly roll' and waving his flippers. We also visited Hora Sfakion, which involved a breathtaking drive over the mountains. We saw Griffon Vultures circling overhead and mountain goats perched on tiny ledges along the way. The harbour is where you can take a boat along the coast to secluded beaches - we chose lunch overlooking the sea and enjoyed every mouthful. We would recommend the accommodation and location without hesitation. Joan and Julian

A real find!
A beautiful and thoughtfully equipped apartment in a fabulous location with stunning views over the countryside. Kathie & Chris are excellent hosts whoā€™ve spared no detail in providing every essential, and more, for the visitors to their holiday retreat. We came to Crete for a relax and collapse from our busy lives and found the perfect haven - we really loved it. We shall certainly return and whole heartedly recommend The House in the Sun to anyone looking for an escape from the crowds and hurly burly of the resort areas.

The House in the Sun is a truly lovely place to stay....a real gem. The apartment is beautifully spacious and has been generously furnished and equipped to a very high standard, we wanted for nothing.We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the big views which subtly changed with the weather. Chris and Kathie are the perfect hosts - thoughtful and kind, nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate in recommending this property ...it is just lovely.

Great mountain views in lovely apartment
Had a lovely holiday in this apartment. Very comfortable and hosts Kathie and Chris went out of their way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. They supplied all the little touches that made it easy to feel at home straight away. We loved the situation away from the busyness of the town but within a short drive to the beach. We had some great walks in the surrounding countryside.
