Alto Vallecito Fantastic Views of Sangre de Cristos Private Hot Tub

Arroyo Seco - Des Montes area- 1/2 mile to Village of Arroyo Seco, 10 miles to Taos Ski Valley, 7 miles to town of Taos

Alto Vallecito - a contemporary custom home on 1.4 acres with expansive unobstructed views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, including its' namesake Vallecito Mountain (12,643’). Conveniently located halfway between the town of Taos and world-famous Taos Ski Valley with a unique design interpretation of “Taos Architecture,” blending a pueblo-style flat roof with a pitched roof creating grand cathedral ceilings in the great room and master bedroom.

The floor plan is ideally suited for 2 couples (with bedrooms/baths on opposite ends of the house) or a single family with children. The kitchen and living/dining areas are essentially one big space made cozy with a wood-burning stove and takes advantage of the grand mountain views via large picture windows. The home is lovingly stocked by the owners with books, movies, entertainment system, a gourmet kitchen, lead crystal wine glasses, and high quality linens/towels. In place of satelitte TV there is a new Roku streaming device hooked up to the TV for guests to sign into their own streaming and TV services like Netflix and others, etc. Enjoy a drink and mountain views from the private outdoor hot tub after taking a short walk to the cute village of Arroyo Seco just 1/2 mile away.

"A regional contemporary hybrid of two common Taos styles, the design blends flat roof and territorial pitches to create a truly unique interpretation of Taos Architecture. The home is positioned to take advantage of the panoramic views of the nearby Taos Mountains and looks beyond to capture the distant peaks of the Truchas Range. Constructed of 14" pumice crete with R-factor of 28 and wise solar orientation keep the home warm in the winter and cool in the summer". Jed Magee, Architect

Our Secret in Taos
We have stayed in this home four times. We visit Taos every summer in July for fly-fishing and have stayed in many, many VRBOs over the years. This one is the best of any we have tried and the reason we always return. The house is perfect for just the two of us. However, if you were staying with another couple or kids, the secondary bedroom is on its own wing - and everyone gets maximum privacy. We enjoy the courtyard every morning and evening for meals. From that vantage point, we have seen hundreds of darling prairie dogs, a fox, a rabbit or three, rainbows, rain on the mountains, and even elk all from the comfort of the private back courtyard. We also enjoy the spa every day and have watched many a sunrise from it. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to make your meals. There are many big grocery stores in town, but also Sol Food 2-3 minutes away for quick items. The beds are comfortable, although we do wish the owners would switch to non-scented detergent for the bedding and towels. We usually have to bring our own due to the intense perfumed detergent used. The home is perfectly located for access to anything. Taos in minutes, the ski valley in minutes, and all the wonderful Arroyo Seco and El Prado restaurants in minutes. The house is private and easy to access, although the driveway needs to be graded quite badly. You will get all the quiet you need here to unplug and disconnect from the world. We will stay again and again!

Fun Getaway Home and Great Views!
The property was lovely and the view very impressive. It was also super close to Arroyo Seco which is darling! The washer was super stinky and we could not use it, but it was otherwise fabulous!

Arroyo Seco Gem
We loved staying in this great home just outside of the fabulous village of Arroyo Seco. It was ample in size, had a great kitchen/living area, super comfortable beds, and great bath facilities. The view and the outdoor spaces were also a wonderful feature of this property. Waking up to the ringed Mountain Views each day was breathtaking. Everything was as expected and the property manager was on top of everything. Definitely consider this property. We likely will be back!

The BEST place to stay around Taos
We’ve been coming to this house for years! Beautiful home, beautiful Mountain views, privacy, comfortable beds, spacious kitchen. This place has everything you need and a short drive to town, ski valley, the gorge. Arroy Secco is a short walk down the road with the best places to eat. Our favorites are Sol Food, Taos Cow, and Aceq. Highly recommend this wonderful place.

Excellent property, clean, met all of my expectations. A bit challenging to find the first time and the access road would benefit from some smoothing out but was a perfect fit for my family.

Great home, beautiful views!
Stocked with everything you need and very spacious. Property is hard to find at night and cell service is spotty so definitely try to follow the written directions provided at time of rental. Jacuzzi is amazing as well. Just book it.

Great house, poorly managed
House is great, views are spectacular. Driveway is in need of repair, do not venture without an SUV. We planned to vacation but also work for a few days there and this was challenging as the Wifi is basically nonexistent - difficult to even get emails let alone stream netflix or take a call. This made the trip pretty challenging and the property management company was not able to fix it. That plus a few light bulbs out, some hairs in the beds when we got there, and the experience of needing to find an extension ladder in the garage to remove a beeping out-of-battery smoke detector on a 20ft ceiling in the dark at 11pm while my 18mo old daughter was sleeping - I don't think this property is being managed very well. Pretty frustrating.

Family Getaway
This was a perfect rental for two couples. Two of us arrived from the East Coast and two arrived from Colorado and we chose this rental for 3 nights for a family get together. The views/scenery are amazing from all rooms and the kitchen had everything we needed. We’d love to rent again some day. Thank you. Sandra B

Wonderful property in which I would definitely stay again. It was spotless and well supplied with basics. The views of the mountains are spectacular and we really enjoyed the hot tub. Close to the tiny village of Arroyo Seco (1/2 mile), where there are some galleries, a few restaurants, and a small but good grocery store. Will stay here again!

Lovely Home with Gorgeous Views
Very comfortable, clean, well-equipped house situated in the cute little village of Arroyo Seco - 20 mins from Taos in one direction and 20 mins from the Taos Ski Resort in the other direction. Eating in is a pleasure - the kitchen is very chef-friendly and the dining room has a beautiful view of the mountains. Kristi, the property manager, was great and responded quickly to replace the battery in a smoke detector that was beeping. This is a perfect rental for two couples or a small family.

Beautiful Home in the mountians
This home is a beautiful place nestled in the mountains with privacy and incredible views. Plenty of room for big families, comfortable beds, and well furnished. The hot tub on the deck at night is amazing, and the view of the valley below and surrounding mountains in breath taking! The care taker and owners are so helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Anything we needed, they were quick to respond and tend to! I highly recommend this beautiful home and we hope to come back! Joanna Self

Great house with epic views
We were extremely happy with the house for our group of 2 couples. The kitchen was well equipped. The library collection was most impressive. The view was fantastic. The house is top-notch. The only iffy part was the access road. We were very happy that we had a 4WD vehicle to access the house. The entry road needs some repair.

Great fall color trip
Very convenient location to a lot of the hikes and scenic drives that we had planned. Fantastic view of the mountains from all the rooms. Very accommodating for two couples as the BR/BA combinations are at opposite ends of the house and each have their own wonderful views. Enjoyed the outdoor patio and the hot tub. Found the walk-through office area very useful as one of us had to call in to several business meetings during our stay. Glad we had a high-enough clearance vehicle to navigate the dirt gravel road’s dips (though most passenger vehicles could make it in dry weather). Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Great place, stunning views, questionable management
Alto Vallecito is a very beautiful property. The house is really thoughtfully designed and we loved being there. Escaping Texas in August for a place where we could wake up with the windows open and a chill in the air was wonderful. The house is a strange combination of great things and sort of weird things - very comfortable beds and linens, a lovely hot tub, excellent cooking tools and a beautiful kitchen. Plenty of room for the 4 of us, great book collection and puzzles and games, and space for the 20-somethings to retreat and stay up late listening to music in the other end of the house while we went to bed. In many ways it's an ideal place. We were there for 2 weeks, which I imagine is longer than many of the tenants. After about 6 days we were running low on toilet paper (and the cheapest toilet paper you can imagine), kleenex, paper towels, etc. I contacted the caretaker and was told that those items were only included initially as a courtesy and we would have to purchase additional items. I thought that was just so odd. We've literally rented dozens and dozens of places over the years and never had this happen. Whatever, no big deal - we just bought some with our next grocery run, but it left a weird taste in our mouth. Oh, and the coffee maker. I have to mention it because it seems to come up in many reviews. It works and the coffee tastes good, but it takes absolutely forever to brew a full pot and is the cheapest coffee maker you can purchase. I also thought that was strange, given how many other items in the kitchen were truly top-notch. Like I said, it's a beautiful place and we loved being there. But I think a management company that cheaps out on hospitality items when renters are paying handsome sums to rent is a strange corner-cutting strategy, and it backfires to some extent. Additionally, I contacted the caretaker to ask a few questions at checkout and never heard back from her. I rarely leave anything but a glowing review, trying to find every way I can to emphasize the positive, so it pains me to leave these comments. I'll say it again - beautiful place and well-appointed, but could do with a few tweaks to make it a truly welcoming experience.

This house had an amazing view and stayed pretty cool even on hot days. The PS3 controllers do not work properly but other than that the house was perfect for our New Mexico vacation.
