Cottage #4 on AuTrain River Near Lake Superior Beach, Pictured Rocks, Waterfalls

Conveniently located in the heart of the upper peninsula just minutes from Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, dozens of waterfalls and endless outdoor activities and adventures. AuTrain River Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages are pet friendly and range from one bedroom to 4 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 8 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like WiFi, towels, linens, blankets, pillows and cooking supplies. There is a fire-pit area for guests to enjoy a fire w/a view of the river and wood can be purchased locally. Also included is a gas grill w/propane, and one free standard kayak rental from Da Ya Shak. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. Additional kayaks are available for rent. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details.

The Hemlock Cottage just got a complete makeover in May 2020! It is within steps of the river, and has a very unique feel to it. When we started the remodel, we found original cedar logs behind the paneling. The cottage was originally built in the 40's using local cedar. We restored the old logs and made them a center piece. The layout is small, but spacious for it's size and easily accommodates our guests. It is perfect for couples!! The kitchen is fully stocked and there's seating for 3 at the dining bar. There is A/C, WiFi, and a 43" TV with internet streaming service. The bedroom has a nice queen pillow-top mattress. The kitchen is very spacious for such a small space. there is plenty of counter top and the old original sink from the 50's is still in use. The nice new deck outside is perfect for a relaxing view of the river and general lounging.

The AuTrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing/kayaking as it winds 12 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful AuTrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located in Munising is only 15 minutes away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. If you are into fishing, Trout and Salmon are the most commonly fished in Lake Superior.

I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay. I will meet with you after you arrive and give you advice about the area and things you can enjoy during your vacation.

If you are going for quaint and rustic...this is your place. Nothing new (except maybe the toaster). Rough, rough boards everywhere. Be careful not to get splinters.

We enjoyed our stay in this little cabin. The property was quiet with close proximity to a river and a few stores down the road. The cabin itself was clean and well kept with A/C, tvs, a wood burning stove, and full kitchen. Our host was quick to answer any questions we had and the check in/out process was simple. A great family trip!
We stayed for 4 nights with our one year old baby and Labrador, and it was a lovely trip! The cottage is cozy for 4 beings, but was a great adventure. We were able to fit a smaller sized pack’n’play (guava lotus) at the end of the bed inside the bedroom curtain as well as a smaller dog crate. We hiked many waterfalls, saw the cliffs, played on the beach, went to visit Marquette (which is quite cute), the dog got to swim in the river across the way. It was one of the prettiest places we have traveled to and absolutely would visit again! This was a perfect little cabin for our stay.

A couple and their dog. My girlfriend & I got engaged on this trip! And it all went incredibly well because of our VRBO property rentals. This was our first extended vacation together with a dog and the property and surrounding areas & restaurants were all very dog friendly! If we ever came back to this area again I would consider rebooking this property because the stay was good. The property owners were very proactive and reached out ahead of time providing important information to us before we needed. That is especially great if you traveling in areas where the broadband isn’t great. We loved this property and appreciate it helping us make some wonderful memories for us!

The best little getaway ever!
The cottage was exactly as described. Super cute and very recently updated but still has that cabin feel to it as well. It was clean and well stocked. One of the things I loved was how thorough the host was with making sure everything was laid out for us as far as knowing what was expected of guests, contact information, wifi and television information, and even suggestions for all of the things in the area that there were to do as well as descriptions and even some of the history of the area! There was a book that had everything organized in it and it was so interested to read. I thought that was just really cool to have available to us and a lot of the things we did were based on that book. We enjoyed our kayaking day and everyone at Da Yak Shack was amazing as well! Every single person we met was super friendly and I felt so welcomed in Au Train. In fact, I spent most of my trip trying to convince my boyfriend to move there. We are already planning a trip back up very very soon and hoping to bring the kids with us next time!

We enjoyed our stay - being right by the river gave us plenty of time to fish! The cabin had just what we needed for the two of us to stay. Convenient to Munising and Lake Superior. Would love to visit during that summer and kayak the river.

Perfect - Rustic and serene!
This cabin was not just clean and well maintained but was so nicely done, cute details (even the toilet paper holder, an iron pipe!) and so functional - outlets in the bedside lamps for instance. Fully stocked w everything we’d need, great host communication and the setting could not have been more perfectly beautiful - right on the river. Super convenient to go to Munising and Marquette.

Awesome little cabin!
This is the perfect little cabin. So nice. Everything is brand new! Has a really nice big comfy bed. Full kitchen with refrigerator and stove etc. It’s right next to the Au Train river and close driving distance to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which is what we did! The host was so nice as to even come out and help us on short notice. — I did want to note, that it’s not a real fireplace. From the pictures, I was thinking it was a real fireplace, but it is just a heater kind, no wood involved, but still works great! Five stars excellent experience!

Great time in au train
Great smaller property to stay at... had a small hiccup in the beginning but Cory handled service recovery extremely well. There are allot of mosquitos in the area on hiking trails and around the cabins so would suggest some type of bug repellant... other than that the cabin itself was small but very clean plenty of towels for the week and even a small gift basket with snacks which was unexpected.... soap was provided for the bathroom and kitchen areas. Internet was a bit spotty at times but overall good.... phone calls were hard to make in the cabin itself but stepping out onto the porch worked just fine. The only suggestion i would have is possibly a little more pieces of silverware as there were only 2 forks 2spoons 2 large spoons and only one butter knife..... I'm sure this was an over site since the utensils I'm sure are not counted when checking out.... other than that we had a terrific time and look forward to returning to the area in the future.... would definitely come back to this or other properties Cory had
