Great introduction to the OBX
We thought this home on Avon was the perfect spot for our family; just a short walk over the Dunes to the ocean and a not too busy beach. We walked to the Avon Fishing Pier, souvenir, coffee and ice cream shops and restaurants. The area and beach felt safe and it was very clean. There is a mix of rentals and homeowners in the immediate neighborhood.
We were pleasantly surprised that the cottage seemed larger and more open than the online photos. The kitchen, bedrooms and baths were fine. The carpet in one of the bedrooms had a strong odor that we reported to the management company, we were unable to use the bedroom during our stay.
There is an outdoor shower and hose to wash off the sand after a day at the beach. Also under the house, are two small charcoal grills, a clothes line for wet towels/suits and a bin where previous guests had left boogie boards and sand toys to use.
We were able to enjoy the deck the entire trip, there was always a breeze and it was shaded in the afternoon. We expected beach access from the deck, but the opening has been removed. The public beach access is next to the house, up and down a few steps. The beach wagon we rented was not able to be used.
We rented our linens/towels from Moneyworth. We rented beach items from Island Cycles and Ocean Atlantic Rentals. We were happy with everything and would recommend them.
