Never rent a VRBO that is hosted by Vacasa
Absolutely abysmal customer service from Vacasa. Winter storm Enzo shut the entire Outer Banks down and we couldn’t access the property. Vacasa’s response was it wasn’t their problem and they would not offer any refunds or future credits. A simple Google search uncovered untold horror stories similar to mine. I will never rent another property if they are the host.

Weekend Get-Away
We were just here for a little weekend get-away before Christmas. The house is as advertised. It feels like staying at your friends well-loved beach house. The view is beautiful, you are close to everything and there is plenty of room for kids (and the dog) to relax. While it has almost everything, there wasn’t a microwave, which was a bit of a surprise. The sandspurs are abundant, so shows outdoors are a must. We would definitely stay here again.

A gem
Within a minute of being here we realized this home was loved and had been lived in. It immediately felt like home. Furniture comfy, although one bed was a bit soft. Beautiful art and touches. We tried to love it as much as the owners did. Rough walking over dunes for the pups, they picked up some prickly briars so we drove onto beach rest of week. Location was great! Avon is always a good location on Hatteras Island. We hope to stay here next year as well. The management company was fantastic!

Spacious house with amazing views!! Top deck is breathtaking. Beach very quiet and clean. Very convenient to restaurants, supermarket etc. Mattresses were uncomfortable, as identified in previous reviews. Overflowing linen bin from previous renter was in the driveway the ENTIRE time we were there, blowing all over the property. It’s disgusting having to pick up someone else’s linen. Hot tub wasn’t working for the first half of our stay. Multiple calls to Vacasa/Hatteras Realty, but was told it’s considered a “non-urgent ticket”. Unfortunate, since that was part of the reason we chose this property. Initially had some struggles with getting the multi-media system to work with the printed instructions next to the tv, which appeared inaccurate as someone updated them with handwriting directions on the back. Outdoor grill was too rusty too cook on. Lots of amenities in the house we didn’t get to/need to use, which is great: games, books, puzzles, lots of kitchen appliances, picnic table on deck.

My family and I rented the property for spring break. It was just what we needed! The house was very clean and there was plenty of space for us all to spread out. The beds could have been a little more comfortable, but adequate for a vacation rental. The hot tub was amazing, and the views absolutely made our trip! Lovely Stay overall.

The house location is great! The communication was horrible.
We arrived on March 10th. There was a plastic bin filled with dirty linen in the driveway dated March 8th. When we got into the house, the heat was on. We tried to adjust the unit but it wanted an access code that wasn’t included in the check in or any other emails. Two days later and after 3 calls to the customer service number, we finally got the air conditioning turned on. The location of the house was great. The new deck on top was great and great views. A man showed up unannounced the day before check out to clean the hot tub without telling us who he was or why he was cleaning it before we were leaving. The upstairs nook needed to be cleaned and both queen mattresses need to be replaced. It was like sleeping in a taco. Lots of confusion between hatteras realty and Vacasa.

Wonderful family getaway!
We loved our stay at Gray Haven with our three kids! The house is well equipped with the basics and a lot of nice extras to make your stay fun and easy. It’s so close to the beach and the star gazing from the top deck is amazing!

House is beautiful, upper deck has amazing views! Public beach access is MUCH better. Wider paths, less prickly stuff and not as steep. Minor things like burned out lightbulbs, short blankets and TERRIBLE mattresses are disappointing. Overall a great stay.

Summer family vacation
We were about 8 months planning and looking forward to this getaway. We were not disappointed, the house was just about as we hoped. Beach access is challenging, but beautiful when you get there! The only wish we could’ve had- was softer more comfortable beds and the grill a little more closer to the eating area.
