Rock Cottage Self Catering Cottage

The Cottage set in the grounds of Rock Cottage Country House, is a charming rustic, Irish Cottage with all modern conveniences on the inside, whilst preserving its historic character on the outside. It is situated in a tranquil courtyard garden of a Georgian hunting lodge dating back to 18th Century.
We are situated on The wild Atlantic Way just a 10 minute drive away from Schull, Goleen and Durrus. Schull has numerous boutiques, pubs and restaurants, art galleries, library and good food shops plus a weekly market on Sundays.
Also near by is The Mizen Head and Barley cove and other beautiful beaches.
We are well situated for exploring West Cork, including The Mizen Head, The Sheep's Head and The Beara Peninsulas.
Outside guests can roam around the 17 acres of grounds, hillside and visit the animals. From the top of the hill there is a bench where guests can sit and enjoy the 360 degree view over the hills and Mount Gabriel. There is also a Chalet available, the perfect glamping holiday/p8830479?uni_id=4895282

My husband and I are just back from a lovely holiday at Rock Cottage. The location is excellent, quiet, beautiful surroundings and ideally situated for exploring west Cork. The cottage was spotless, very comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The owners Jackie and Jonathan were extremely welcoming and provided lots of good advice about the surrounding area. We had our two dogs with us. It’s hard to find pet friendly accommodation that is really pet friendly as well as comfortable for the adults. Would definitely love to stay again. Highly recommend Rock Cottage.

A wonderful beautiful place, and wonderful hosts!!
I've stayed with Jackie and Jonathon (and dogs Elsa and Saffron) in their wonderful cozy and comfortable "Rock Cottage" before, and my planning for another trip to West Cork was predicated on finding an available period to stay with them once again in the cottage. I’ve worked and stayed in 69 countries and 50 US states besides Ireland, and I always come back to County Kerry and County Cork for the beauty, tranquility, and wonderful people as exemplified by Jackie and Jonathon. The property is a completely and lovingly refurbished 1826 Georgian hunting lodge where the former courtyard garden stone outbuildings have been preserved on the outside but very well updated on the inside with a full modern kitchen not a galley kitchen, large modern bathroom with lots of hot water, and cozy and comfortable living spaces. Recycling is well setup and encouraged, and there is even an electrical charging facility for EV cars. The extensive grounds are flower filled and immaculate with horses, donkeys, chickens and geese (and the occasional neighborhood sheep eating Jackie’s flowers). I loved spoiling the donkey and the horses with fresh carrots in the mornings. Driving up the long country lane driveway you feel yourself relaxing, and then the blond sisters Elsa and Saffron come running up to greet you and get some love and scratches, and then Jackie comes strolling over with a huge smile and greeting, and cookies, flowers and fresh eggs. You will not go wrong staying with my friends!!

Great Irish Getaway
The property is as beautiful as the pictures. Everything was clean, tidy, and ready for our stay. Jackie & Jonathan are very friendly, helpful, and attentive hosts. With the main house, just across the lawn and car park, they were always available when needed. We had a wonderful stay and would like to return, because it was such a positive experience!

A rare find and secret gem
It is rare to come across a place so perfect. Jackie and Jonathan go above and beyond with anything you need, and have created a little piece of heaven in Ireland. The house has everything you need, and is spotlessly clean and tidy. Outside is equally charming from the vegetable garden and fresh eggs from the resident chickens and ducks, to feeding the donkeys, and having friendly and loving dogs and cats roaming the property, and joining for walks. If you are planning a trip to the Atlantic Way/a break in the beautiful west coast, you would be lucky to stay here. There are some many beautiful places to see, places to eat and lots to do - that Jackie and Jonathan will recommend. I have travelled all over the world, and Rock Cottage will be one of the treasured places to always remember and return to.

Delightful property. Very quiet and peaceful. Well appointed with every detail provided.
We enjoyed our stay so much we are already planning a return visit. Jacqueline and Jonathan were very friendly and accommodating. The cottage is lovely, cozy, and well appointed. We truly enjoyed our peaceful stay and absolutely loved the grounds and all the friendly sheep, donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks. Mr. Daisy, the cat, is our new best friend! Many thanks, Jacqueline and Jonathan, for your most friendly hospitality. You provide an awesome travel experience that far exceeded our expectations and we are looking forward to an extended return visit.

We had a lovely time. Jackie and Jonathan could not have been more helpful and gracious.
You could not have a more lovely setting and cottage for two people in this wonderful part of Southwest Ireland. It was completely upfitted for catering and we availed ourselves of the lovely local produce, seafood and meats for each morning and evening meal. We found very few desired kitchen items lacking......and I am a cook!! The cottage was clean, well organized and ideal for daily car tours thru the region. We intend to visit again!

A beautiful cottage set in ideal surroundings!
Rock Cottage proved to be exactly what we were looking for, and more! The owners Jackie and Jonathan, made us feel very welcome to their idyllic piece of West Cork as well as allowing us the opportunity to meet their growing menagerie including donkey's, ducks, chickens and cat. While the cottage offers all you need for home cooking, it is also within a short drive of a variety of decent restaurants serving great food, Blair's Cove House and The Herons Cove in Goleen to name a couple. If you are looking for a peaceful escape, complete darkness at night and waking to birdsong, look no further. My wife and I agreed this has to be our best Holiday Cottage experience to date, in arguably the most beautiful part of County Cork.

Lovely Setting; Cozy Cottage; Attentive, Helpful Owners
We were delighted to spend over a week at Jackie and Jonathan's cottage near Schull, West Cork, at Christmas time 2015. From the moment we drove up the driveway and spotted numerous sheep and the fairy-tale-like rolling terrain in front of their house, we knew we were in for a treat. It was so nice having the owners in residence on the property. (So many rentals owners do not live anywhere near the rental property. We always think it is a major plus having the owners on-site, but it is a rarity.) The cottage was such a welcoming place to come home to after our times away from it. We also enjoyed our times relaxing there. The fireplace was used every night. (The owners graciously and promptly refilled the firewood basket for us every morning when we placed it outside the cottage since it was so muddy, and they wanted to spare us the inconvenience of filling it up ourselves in less than ideal weather conditions.) The bedding was of a very high standard. The duvet and pillows were extremely comfortable. The cottage was clean and a very nice size for a couple. Jackie was so helpful pre-trip and during trip. Pre-trip she provided names of restaurants that might be open during the holiday period. I had asked her in advance as I know from both living in and traveling in Ireland that this time of the year can be difficult to find restaurants open. She also was so helpful in offering to buy us starter food items for our arrival after our drive from Shannon Airport. We felt well looked after by our hosts. They took time to chat with us and make sure all was well, checking in by email and offering tips about pub music, etc. This type of individualized service is priceless. (As far as nearby attractions, we loved the Beacon at the small town of Baltimore. It is a very short walk up to it from the car park. If you do go there, be very careful as there are NO barriers, and you could easily walk off the edges in parts and perish. However, it is THE must-see attraction in our book and seemingly not well touristed.) Although the weather we experienced this time in Ireland was easily the worst we've ever experienced on many trips there as well as in six years of living there, this trip was sublime in so many ways. We attribute so much of our joy to the location of the cottage, the cottage itself, and the owners who were exceptional in their concern for our stay being a quality one. We would highly recommend the cottage to anyone.

A peaceful spot in one of Ireland"s most unique and beautiful locations
Rock Cottage was everything described in the listing and so much more. The cottage is superbly maintained and an incredibly comfortable place to return to at day's end or for that to just spend the day recharging. The cottage is comfortably and well furnished and the 17 acres of farm land are a delight to explore. The property is well located to provide easy access to the Mizen Peninsula, Sheep Heads and Beara Peninsula. Jackie is a delightful host. Her personal warmth and enthusiasm for her property are evident throughout. My visit to this remote and beautiful area of Ireland was definitely enhanced by staying at Rock Cottage. I could not have asked for a more perfect spot.

A home away from home
After 3 weeks in Jonathan and Jackie's little corner of paradise, we were sad to leave again. The cottage has a very homely feel to it and has everything we needed for a relaxing vacation: Comfortable beds, tasteful decorations, amazing views into the garden, a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, adorable animals - and on top of it all, very kind and helpful hosts! We are truly glad that we chose this cottage for our stay, and we will definitely come back around another time!

Great stay in lovely cottage
We could not have chosen a better place to stay in West Cork!! Rock Cottage is a perfectly equipped and cozy cottage with so many loving details ( wonderful fresh flowers, books, candles....). Jackie and Jonathan are great hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our little daughter has immediately fallen in love with their cute animals. West Cork offers so much wonderful places to discover, but one of the highlights was spending time in Rock Cottage and it´s great surroundings. We would totally recommend it and can only say: Thanks again, Jackie and Jonathan!!
