Lovely house but poor amenities
The house and grounds were very nice, but the amenities were very poor:
When we arrived (5 adults, 1 child aged 8 and 1 infant) there were only 4 bath towels in the house and they were all wet.
There was wet washing in the washing machine and in the dryer.
At least 6 lights had blown globes and a number of light switches were taped over.
There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher and various open food packets in the kitchen cupboards.
The central heating/air conditioning only worked upstairs.
The only heating downstairs was an electric heater and the slow combustion fire. While there was firewood provided there was no kindling or firelighters to start the fire (we have a slow combustion heater at home which we use regularly so we know how to start a fire).
The smoke detector in the stairwell had no cover and appeared damaged.
Only 1 of 3 bathrooms functioned - 1 had a blown light and the shower in the other did not attach to the hook provided so was hand held only.
We had contacted the host prior to arrival to enquire if the house had a cot or high chair considering the listing says it caters for ages from 0. His response was “No but it is worth considering for the future”.
When we tried to contact the host about towels when we arrived there was no response until after we had checked out as he was “out of range”. We said we expect a refund as having no towels was totally unacceptable on its own without all the other issues. (We had gone into town and bought towels).
