Within walking distance, wonderful bakery/pastry shop you will enjoy going to every day. Local cafe and doctor in village's main square 5 minutes away. VILLA AMÉLIE FRANCE is 8 km/5 miles from Coulommiers (population 15,000). The Grand Morin River and various canals flow through this city of flowers and under its picturesque bridges. Enjoy cafes, small restaurants, bakeries, shops, wine merchants, a pedestrian-only street, a church whose spire dominates the city and a 12th Century Templar Headquarters. The beautiful city library sits in the renovated old prison, and its high stone walls happily combine 1850 religious inspired style with contemporary architecture.
You will have fun taking photos, feeding the ducks and playing at the playground in the romantic, historical Parc des Capucins with its ancient moat and canals and picturesque ruins. There is even a history museum in the old abbey.
Be sure to visit the open-air fresh food markets twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday mornings) on the cobblestone main square and shop in the large shopping centers.
Don’t miss the local cheese maker a few kilometres further in the town of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre where you can take a tour and learn how cheese is made . Decide for yourself if Brie cheese is better than Coulommiers cheese (or vice-versa)!
