This lovely farmhouse cottage, with its spacious common areas & cozy bedrooms, sits above the banks of Little Goose Creek right at the edge of the quiet town of Big Horn. Fenced open pastures surround it & fill every evening with turkeys & bounding white-tailed deer. Towering Ponderosa Pines arc across the sky over the front yard and are frequented by sapsuckers & jays. You could easily stay occupied right here in Bighorn, but there’s more to explore just a 10 minute drive to Sheridan.
I am an experienced and highly rated Superhost, a cohost on behalf of the owner and manage the property full-time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, or if I can help in anyway.
There’s so much to do nearby that you’ll probably feel torn between enjoying the house or getting out. The foothills of the Bighorn Mountains will call you out from the dining table at least to a shady spot under the back patio pergola. But it wouldn't be a stretch to mosey on up Red Grade Road to the trail heads sponsored by Sheridan Community Land Trust and head out for a hike splashed with wildflowers and bird song. You’ll have the entire house and fenced yard to yourself.
The farmhouse itself has gone through different versions over the decades and now holds a open cottage kitchen equipped with everything you need to prepare a bountiful meal for the dining table that seats eight. Or take a break from typical chores and enjoy a quick stroll to the Bighorn Mercantile for their stone-fired pizza, hot “sammiches”, and local brews or to Just Ledoux It Saloon and Steakhouse for tasty American cuisine and frequent live music.
Return home to a sunlight open floor plan and views of the Bighorn Mountain foothills inside and out. The living areas are outfitted with comfortable seating and plenty of room for your family. The library nook is filled with the the owner’s diverse collection of reading material, including local references. Not that you’ll want to spend much time indoors with the incredible view of the Bighorn’s to be enjoyed from under the pergola on the back patio, or via a stroll along Brinton Road or a quick five minute ride up to the Red Grade Road trailhead sponsored by Sheridan Community Land Trust, but if summer rain showers or winter snowfall keep you inside you can enjoy your favorite streaming subscriptions or cable TV on any of the three flat screen TVs throughout the house, spread out a board game on the long dining table, or get some pressing work done at a nearby desk in the dining room or at a table away in the one of the main floor bedrooms.
There is plenty of parking in the long driveway next to the house. While there are not sidewalks around the neighborhood, Bighorn is a small quiet village and easy to walk around. You’ll enjoy strolling to the city park, to restaurants and live music.
The farmhouse is located next to Little Goose Creek. At certain times of year, especially spring to early summer, the creek is brimming with snow melt and running high and fast. There is a fence between the creek and the house, but families should be aware that the body of water is nearby and may attract attention from children and pets off leash.
