Historic Thomas Chapel house - Half mile from Downtown Boone

Update: The chapel is fully functional and welcoming guests following Helene!

Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

Amazing Place!
Holy moly what a place! The Thomas Chapel did not disappoint at all! Everything about it was awesome. The attention to detail and all of the local & original material tie ins were super cool. The location is amazing! You are minutes from town but with the hillside and the creek it feels like you are in your own secluded holler out in the mountains. The hosts are superb as well. Excellent communication without being intrusive. The house has everything you could need and the additional coffee and snacks are a nice personal touch. My wife and I always enjoy our weekends in Boone but it is places like this that add that extra layer of wonderful to the time. We will definitely be returning!

Beautiful Refuge
Daniel, the manager of the property could not have been better, he was very responsive and helped us with anything we needed. The property itself is amazing, exactly as it is in the pictures but they do not truly convey the grandeur of the space. We love old barns, etc and to have something that looked so old (it actually is a 1885 church) that functioned as a new home was perfect. I would highly recommend! It is close to town but felt very secluded. The view out the kitchen window was a pre-civil war barn and a pumpkin patch. Perfect!

chapel in Boone
My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay…the chapel was very quiet, clean and relaxing…not to mention so close to downtown Boone/Blowing Rock, and less than 30 mins to major hikes along the blue ridge parkway. We were lucky enough to stay until the day prior to the hurricane hitting NC/TN. Hoping that little chapel wasn’t hurt by any flooding!

Totally enjoyed this space for a short vacay. The amount of amenities provided was so useful. The actual space clearly matches the descriptions and pictures. We even enjoyed the owner’s recommendation of The Local as a Boone restaurant .

Boone Trip
Very pleasant accommodations that was conveniently located to downtown Boone. The restoration of the church was impressive and tastefully decorated. Owner should consider putting together a scrapbook of old pictures of when it was used as a church for guests to browse. Place was very clean and included all essential amenities. Will definitely stay again for future Boone trips.

It was perfection. We sat out in the evening and watched the fire flies. Very peaceful yet close to town. I loved sitting in large comfy chair reading or just gazing up at the hand hewn beams. We will return.

Amazing Mountain Getaway
I'm not normally the person that takes the time to review properties, but this one was so special that it deserves it. First, the property itself was amazing. You can feel and see the history of this building, yet at the same time you don't feel like you are staying in a converted church. Daniel did an amazing job with decor keeping everything comfortable and modern, but with touches that pay homage to the fact that it is a converted church. The kitchen was stocked with everythig we needed and the entire property was immaculately maintained. Daniel was also very easy to communicate with on the couple of times I reached out prior to check-in. The location is just as amazing as the property itself. It is located within about a minute drive from King St./downtown Boone, but also completely secluded. My wife and I visited for our 15th wedding anniversary and were so impressed that we plan on making this an annual trip. Anyone that is considering booking this property needs to do so as it will not be something you will regret.

Amazing Getaway
This is the sweetest renovated church that is bright and cheerful. Awesome handmade woodwork by the owner. Very well stocked kitchen and spacious rooms. A loaf of bread and sparkling cider were left for us to enjoy. And don't forget to ring the church bell outside! This is a must return for us.

One-of-a-kind Retreat
This property is gorgeous and unique and filled with history and intentionality. For the same price as a traditional cottage, we got to bask in the beauty of 19th century architecture, at least 40 foot ceilings, and homey touches that made everything inviting. While we never saw Daniel, he felt fully available through his extensive binder and communication with details on the property and attractions in the area. One suggestion for making the property even more enjoyable for future guests would be the addition of a fire circle and grill outside. Thank you so much for this memorable stay, and we have already begun sharing our positive experience with friends!

Fabulous
This place was just what it is shown be - a converted chapel with all the amenities you could hope for. When you drive up, it is a little white chapel on a rise; when you walk in you still have the ambiance of the old chapel with all the modern conveniences of living today. The modern kitchen is a joy to use along with bright, clean bathroom, king size bed and even plugs on both side tables for your chargers. When we arrived, there was sourdough bread along with non-alcoholic sparkling "wine." The host even has coffee and filters and tea, along with a few snacks. The stream running down the side is such a welcoming sound whenever you go out. We couldn't stop looking up at the open rafters - beautiful old-time labor. Whenever we are in the area again, this is my only choice of lodging.

We really enjoyed our stay at this historic Chapel. This unique home had all the amenities of home. The inside is absolutely beautiful with the tall ceilings. The bed was extremely comfortable. We felt right at home. This location was so close to everything we wanted to do. We defiantly want to come back the next time we are in Boone.
