A little history:
On the right bank of the Garonne, Bouliac, 15 minutes from the city centre of Bordeaux, 10 minutes from the Arena (shows and concerts), is renowned in New Aquitaine for its very good Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation wines and is ideally placed for visiting and tasting the greatest Châteaux in our region. Between castles, mills and religious buildings, the built heritage of Bouliac includes several remarkable sites. In the centre of the town, the town hall has a façade typical of 19th century classical architecture. Built in the 12th century, the church of Saint-Siméon de Bouliac is a true jewel of Romanesque architecture. Pey Berland had the choir fortified in the 15th century. The bell tower has benefited from a restoration campaign undertaken in the 19th century. Other sites of great architectural interest in Bouliac include the Château de Terrefort, the Castel de Vialle, which is now used by several of the town's associations, the sublime Château du Pian, a former vineyard, the Château du Grand Dragon, now in ruins, and the Château Lavergne. The town still has the remains of the old Pian water mill, one of the five water mills that used to operate in Bouliac. A small town on the banks of the Garonne, Bouliac also has an important river heritage: for example, the typical "carrelets à ponton", which appeared in the Gironde in the 18th century, can be seen on the banks. A haven of peace and greenery, the island of Arcins is the only island in the estuary that can be visited.
