About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Dexter Peak cabin, elegantly rustic near YNP/Chico

Dexter Peak Cabin is located near the base of the mountains on a 25 acre parcel shared with our home but still private. Close to Livingston, Chico Hot Springs, Yellowstone River, waterfalls, hiking and fishing, and 35 minutes to Yellowstone Park.
Cabin is located about 200' from owner's home but the outdoor areas are oriented away from the home and toward the mountains. Little to no traffic as we are a couple with no kids.
Dexter Peak Road is a great road for walking!

Cozy, comfy cabin with circle-sawn wood floors, art created by the owner, Amish-made table and chairs with hickory and walnut, gas bbq, washer/dryer, 32" flat screen TV with abundance of movies, books, games, guide books, cotton sheets, fluffy towels, and tasteful extras not normally seen!
Owner manages and strives to please the most discriminating guests!

The loft contains a comfy king bed with room for small children to sleep on sleeping pads too. One can watch TV from bed if desired. (Please don't eat crumbly things in bed!) Note the ceiling height is about 4-5', not tall enough to stand up. Please look at pictures. If this is a concern, we have two more cabins with bedrooms on the first floor, as well as a fully-self-contained RV. Downstairs is a nice quality full-size futon couch for sleeping (it is firm), best for one adult, or two cuddling adults, or two small children. Linens, pillows, blankets are available in the chest and laundry cupboard.

The bathroom has a pedestal sink, corner shower with fiberglass walls and a full-size commercial washer/dryer. Large refrigerator, double sink, four burner stove (24") makes cooking meals convenient. Cupboards are stocked with dishes, pots, pans, blenders, coffee pot, crock pot, wine glasses, all paper products and a nice selections of vinegars, oils, staples, seasonings. There generally is a fair selection of salad dressings, ketchup, mustard in the refrigerator. Since covid, some staples may not be provided.

Delight in the solace offered by the quiet, changing views of the mountains, moody skies, approaching storms, deer, elk, red foxes and birds of all kinds.

Parking in front of the cabin. Car is necessary. Walking in the neighborhood is welcome, please just keep your pets on the road and not roaming in neighbors' pastures.

Wifi-good enough for remote work and video calls, Adirondack chairs on the lawn, wrought iron table and chairs, fire pit with ample amount firewood provided (a reasonable $ for more than normal) horseshoes, propane BBQ. Past guests have left a gift of bear spray (2) for you to use if you like.

Minimal. Greetings and assistance with visiting the area. There are books in the cabin to assist with viewing Yellowstone and the area, and one is fun for kids to use while going through the park. There also is information in the cabin about restaurants, hikes, and tips about things to do.

Thirty-five to forty-five minutes to Yellowstone Park, ten minutes to Chico Hot Springs, and 15 minutes to Yellowstone River and creeks, fishing, hikes to waterfalls, and wildlife in the yard. There are about 5 restaurants/bars/bakery within 15 minutes of the cabin, and all are good. Cabin shares 25 acres with our home a couple hundred feet away, somewhat sheltered by trees and shrubs. We are quiet folks so you won't be disturbed. The area is open ranch land with scattered junipers, cottonwoods, willows. One can easily see sunsets, sunrises over the mountains, approaching storms, rainbows and wildlife, rather than being snuggled in the forest. There are no bears or scary animals around the cabin! Mainly mule deer, elk in the winter, an occasional badger, rabbits, red foxes, eagles, hawks, finches, blue birds, robins, meadowlarks, magpies, ravens, osprey, owls and more!

Car, motorcycle, and bike. Walking in the area of the cabin and in the wilderness is recommended.

Dogs are welcome with an extra $10 per day fee to a maximum of $45 for one week. Longer stays negotiable. We are located at 4800' elevation so temperatures drop at night. There is a portable AC unit that does the job for hot summer days. There is a ceiling fan too. There is often a breeze due to the location on a bench above the river with mountains on both sides.
If one books during peak season more than 9 months in advance, host has right to correct pricing from automatic settings. We strive to have our calendars accurate.
HOUSE RULES

Modem/internet: Please do not reset or reboot. We have a system that connects from the large garage via a radio mounted on the outside of the cabin. Let Gary, 406-595-5700, or I know and we will reboot at the garage. This will usually fix it. If not, we need to reboot the modem and the radio receiver independently from each other in the cabin. Please refrain from unplugging cords and trying to fix yourself. We don't want to have to charge you any IT time if we need to consult with our IT guy to repair. There is a back up Verizon jetpack hotspot in the cabinet next to the stairwell. If using this, please refrain from streaming movies or music or a lot of social media content as the monthly allotment can be used up.

Smoke outside only and use an ashtray.

Campfires only when there is little to no wind and put fire out with water.

Wash dishes well with a focus on glassware. About 98% of our guests do a good to great job so we hope you will 'pay it forward' to our house cleaner, Shannon, by doing the same!

We have a small extra fee for dogs so let me know if you have any. Please clean up after your dog in the immediate area around the cabin. When walking in the neighborhood, please keep dogs from going on other peopleā€™s property.

Take garbage over to garbage can by small barn so cabin doesnā€™t have an undesirable odor. The square can on the porch is for recylables, plastic, cans, cardboard and paper, no glass. When departing for the day or at end of stay, leave temperature at 65-70 degrees in the winter and turn off AC in the summer.

No fireworks, guns or ATV/motorcycles.

Loud parties should get tamed down after 11. If you still want to party, go to Chico Hot Springs Saloon!

Start a load of laundry! It is a great way to ā€˜pay it forwardā€™ to your housecleaner. Also, the entry fee receipt to Yellowstone can be used for seven days, so you can also 'pay it forward' to the next guest if you like!

Our family wishes you a very special vacation getaway and an abundance of fun and memorable adventures!

Perfect Location to Enjoy the Views
We really enjoyed our stay at Dexterā€™s Peak Cabin. The cabin was small but mighty. Packed with everything we needed to enjoy our stay, plus recommendations on things to do around the area. The cabin decor was perfect. We loved watching the sun rise over the mountains every morning from the perfect location. Weā€™ll be returning.

A lovely time in a tiny cabin: cozy
It's a nice property, very reactive hosts. Vicky was kind enough to lend me a cast iron pan for my cooking- managed a 6 course tasting menu for 2 with the few things I had! She also got me a knife sharpener to use! I could slice tomatoes again! I would suggest getting a couple cheap plastic or wood cutting boards, because those glass boards are awful on knives. My only complaint is that when I set my filters for searching for the kind of properties we like, I had "hot tub" as something we wew looking for, and the Dexter Peak cabin was described as having a hot tub. That was definitely not available to us when we arrived, and without even a bathtub to soak in. That was the one big bummer of our otherwise wonderful, relaxing week! Just wish we'd had the hosts tell us, "yeah, you booked when there was one, but it broke and we had to get rid of it." Would've been nice to know ahead of time.

This cabin was very cozy and in a great location. Communication with Vicky was kind, clear, and helpful. We felt warmly welcomed to paradise valley. There was a lovely assortment of amenities and everything was very clean except for a bit of dog hair on the bed/around the sleeping area. Otherwise everything was amazing! Thank you Vicky!

Dexter Peak Cabin
We had the best time while in Montana staying at the Dexter Peak Cabin, which is in a lovely setting with wide-open spaces surrounded by quiet rolling green hills and majestic views. We needed a lot of rest and relaxation, and thatā€™s exactly what we experienced. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we needed during our nearly two-week stay. A welcome basket offered us delicious snacks as we unpacked and got settled. The king-size bed in the loft was comfy. The cabin is in close proximity to the surrounding little towns and within driving distance of Yellowstone. Wildlife is literally right outside the cabin door. We saw mule deer and beautiful birds every day. We enjoyed many nights around the fire pit roasting marshmallows and breathing in the fresh air. The owners, Vicki, Gary, and Steve, were fantastic. Vicki brought over dessert one night making our stay even sweeter. Gary owns a little art studio and gallery in Pray; if you have time, you must check it out. We really enjoyed our time at this special cabin, and we hope to return one day.
