There are some delightful old rooms in the original parts of the building. The rest of the rooms are fairly new and there is nothing particularly distinctive about them. Bathroom fittings are very modern, bed comfortable with good quality bedlinen. There is a very good range of breakfast items.

Disappointed
Was really looking forward to this break as used to live in Amersham and was looking forward to revisiting old haunts and enjoying a bit of luxury. However, it was disappointingly underwhelming and not as we anticipated. On first view the room was good - over 2 floors and looked cosy. However on closer inspection it looked dusty, there was a lopsided lamp which looked as if it was going to fall over and the blind in the bedroom was broken. The toilet looked unclean as if it had not been cleaned well since the previous occupancy. When we returned to the room after our first night the room had clearly not been hoovered as there were still traces of paper on the floor which had dropped out of my pocket. As it was potentially dusty as carpeted throughout and there were beams with cobwebs we would have expected to see that it had been cleaned. In terms of service, we were not told on check in that the Monday breakfast would be at the Crown Hotel and often could not find anyone to ask anything. We were also woken at 4.00 am on Monday morning by someone moving the large bins individually. When I looked out the chap had a light on his hat and he was talking on his mobile so not even trying to reduce the noise. To end on a positive note, however, the breakfasts were excellent and the restaurant staff very friendly and accommodating.

Lovely property, good food. However, shower was disappointing as didn't work properly and the mattress was very old, and sunk in the middle.

Worst Room I Have Ever Stayed In
When we arrived at the hotel the carpark was already full as there was a wedding. My husband stayed in the car and I went in to check in and was asked for payment for the room. I went back out to the car to grab our bags and jokingly told my husband that I had just had to pay for my own birthday present and he looked shocked and showed me the receipt for the pre payment ! We both went back in and queried it with the receptionist who apologised and said he would issue a credit (as I write this payment has come out but no refund has been received) We then went up to our room and OMG this is classed as a 4 star hotel. the carpet had a big burn mark, didn't fit along one wall and there was loads of dust under the bed. The furniture was tatty, one of the lights was just hanging by it's wire and there were loads of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. In the bathroom the bath had loads of chips in it, the floor tiles were cracked and loose and the mirror looked awful. Room 4 is directly over the reception and you can hear every word. The guests in the room opposite were with the wedding party and once the wedding finished decided to continue a party in their own room with very loud music playing and singing at the top of their voices at 1.30 I had to call the night manager and complain and in fairness he dealt with it swiftly. This has to be the worst room we have ever stayed in ! When we queried the room with reception they told us they were fully booked with no alternative rooms.
Tatty furniture.
Cobwebs hanging from ceiling.
Dust at end of bed.
Burn mark in carpet.

Security issue
The room was comfortable, the food was excellent, the reception and dining staff were very good. The only downside to our visit was we had to twice report that housekeeping were leaving the room door open, and therefore security of our property was compromised as we were away all day.

Quaint but disappointing
We stayed in a suite which looked lovely on arrival, but really is need of a lot of maintenance - we reported some issues to the staff and they were not apologetic. The breakfast was good but we had to ask for new crockery as it was dirty.

We were a triffle disappointed! The condition of the rooms were very tired. Cleanliness was not not up scratch. The member of who stayed in 214 on the second night was very pleased with the standard of the room. The breakfast on the second morning was superior to the first and the service too . Would return to a newly refurbished room

Nice hotel. Quirky room with a nice history. Shower had seen better days. If you like privacy then bear in mind that room 12 has an open toilet and bathroom, you can hear everything! Bed was OK but very very soft. Fairly quiet until someone decided to empty a load of bottles into the bin outside our room at 8am! Nice breakfast only let down by a mouldy orange in the fruit bowl at the buffet table. Bed
