Our cabin will sleep 4 with a full-size cedar bed, a sofa futon, and a beautiful outdoor handmade pine full size swinging bed on the full-length front porch, our cabin is located 12 miles from Little Missouri Falls and Albert Pike, within 45-minute drive of local crystal mines in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, 20-minute drive from local canoe rental in Glenwood, Arkansas and an hour drive from Hot Springs and Mena.
The cabin was custom built on site by the owners, with a "tree" centered in the middle of the cabin, the cabin was constructed from hand cut trees off the property and hand-milled on the family sawmill, you will see posts on the porch that were debarked by a ol' family draw knife by hand.
The Homestead Act, enacted during the Civil War in 1862,Ā provided that any adult citizen, or intended citizen, who had never borne arms against the U.S. government could claim 160 acres of surveyed government land. Claimants were required to live on and āimproveā their plot by cultivating the land, pay a small registration fee and agree to live on the land continuously for 5 years, after which they would be granted a deed to the land. Phillip N. Cogburn, my great-grandfather, was granted homestead for land by President Benjamin Harrison (1889-1893), our family still privately own's some of this original land today.
Located in beautiful Montgomery County, Arkansas; Montgomery County was formed on December 9, 1842, and named for Gen. Richard Montgomery, a hero of the American Revolution. Sixty-three percent of the county is national forest land.
All different types of wood, the lumber, and the construction of the Lil' Rustic Retreat, make for a true rustic cabin feel. The pine kitchen cabinets, shelves and hardware were custom constructed on site by the owners. The fresh cedar enclosed bathroom consists of a unique glass paneled shower, a Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel which the owners brought back from their trip to Tennessee straight from the Jack Daniels Whiskey Distillery, the barrel is topped with a beautiful rock shaped sink and custom faucet. Fall asleep in a beautiful full size handmade log cedar bed and enjoy your fresh coffee or old-fashioned country breakfast at the weathered spool bench table centered around the beautiful pine tree cut right off the property.
All the imperfections in the cabin, the wood, the lumber variations in size and shape and the construction of the cabin, make for a true rustic cabin feel and lend a Ol' frontier look to the cabin. Enjoy the cabins practical beauty, simple rustic old-time charm, and cozy interior.
As you sit on the porch of this little rustic country beauty, listen to Jack Creek rippling by as you cuddle in the handmade pine porch bed swing or enjoy an Ol' fashioned glass bottled coke in one of our rocking chairs. Slip back to simpler times, quiet moments, beautiful family time around the kitchen table, and the simple joy of being in the "now" moment. Reconnect, Unplug, and Explore. Bring a book and enjoy in the cool shade right on the banks of the creek or in the shade of a beautiful tree or simply enjoy a fun game of horseshoes for a bit of good Ol' fun. Grill your supper right on the creek bank and enjoy at your picnic table as you watch the stars light up the night sky. Don't forget those late evening smore's over the open rock fire pit as the sun sets on a adventurous day of back roading or galivanting.
This is a rural cabin experience, we are in the woods, we are not a Hilton. Being in the mountains and the rural country, we share the space with animals such as deer, bear, fox, coyotes, snakes, bobcat etc.; All that said, bugs; flies, spiders; and the occasional mouse might drop by to say hello too, we do our absolute BEST to make sure you don't see them. HOWEVER, if even the prospect of the sight or sound of the occasional bug or mouse puts a burr under your saddle, we kindly suggest that you book a chain hotel in the big city of Hot Springs. In this space and on this property, you'll be reminded of the simplicity of life and the simple beauty where nature takes the spotlight.
Relax and Unwind from the pressures of the day to day, as you enjoy the simple country charm of the Fancy Hill community. Make sure and say HI! to Buck, our top DOG, as he may come to visit during your stay.
š„Needing a same day arrival? Please give us a call to see if we can accommodate you or send us a request to book, same day request have to be pre-approved; check in time may be altered depending on the time frame of the guest request.

Property Damage Liability Policies:
This is not an easy task, but unfortunately due to past experiences these policies were put into place.
Guests are responsible for ALL damages to property during their stay with us, INCLUDING damages caused by ANYONE guest invited onto the property during their stay. A basic cleaning fee is charged but renter agrees to maintain cleanliness of the cabin during their stay and leave the cabin in a reasonably clean condition when they leave, this is a vacation rental not a party pad and is not intended for those activities. Refrigerator should be emptied of food, dishes should be washed and left to dry, tie up trash bags and place in outside container provided. Additional charges WILL BE charged if extra cleaning is needed after your stay with us.
Short Term Rental homes are often seen as ideal āpartyā venues for groups of young (and not so young) people. This is a great property meant to have a good time in, with respect to the property and the neighbors. The property is for small families (up to 6), a friend's getaway or couple's retreat. The owner reserves the right to check and confirm the number of guests in the rental space due to our insurance constraints. If you are coming to party or bring extra guests not listed on your booking, we have a zero tolerance for both.
Well Water Disclosure: PLEASE READ!-This is a rural cabin, we are NOT on city water, we are on WELL water, this is a BIG difference compared to city water! Often times when a well is dug it will encounter a mineral called SULFUR, this WILL cause the water to smell, this is often found in the countryside where we live off our land with no outside utilities company providing our water! If you feel like this might be something you would rather not encounter we encourage you to book your stay elsewhere.
If you are here to have quality family or couple time and make memories, we are the place for those activities.
NOTICE**Guests are responsible for PAYMENT for extra overnight guests ($25 each per night, including children) that were not included when their stay was booked, all guests should be disclosed during booking and is grounds for immediate removal of guest.
MULTI PAYMENT WAIVER NOTICE: If the multiple payment option is elected when paying for guests stay, stay must be PAID IN FULL a minimum of seven days before guest arrival or stay will be automatically canceled with no refund to guests!
Weather Disclosure:
At times, we do experience power outages, floods, high winds, impassable roads and cold weather which could lead to freezing water lines; we have NO CONTROL over this! No refund will be given, as this is out of our control!!! Check all weather conditions in our area PRIOR to booking your stay with us!
Winter Cabin Booking Disclosure:
(December-March)
All possible precautions are made to alleviate any type of water freezing to the best of our ability. We have water dripping in the sink and outside due to the cold weather, please leave water dripping at a steady stream in the kitchen sink and the heaters on during your stay (the split unit and the electric heater). Also, occasionally flushing the toilet, turning on the shower and faucet in the bathroom will help with freezing water. Please do not let the water drip in the bathroom due to the unique structure of the sink it will overflow; again, the cold weather could freeze the water, but this does help. HOWEVER, if even the prospect of the loss of power or water is an experience you would rather not have, feel free to book a chain hotel in the big town of Hot Springs, we CANNOT guarantee it will not happen as we have no control over the elements.
