"Little House" a sweet cabin near Montpelier & Maple Corner, Calais, Vermont

All the seasons are beautiful in Vermont -- but fall puts on an extra show! Come enjoy some of the best weather of the year, perfect for outdoor activities, and leaf peeping.
There are also many special events, festivals, art shows, openings, corn mazes, hikes, breweries & races etc. happening in the fall in Vermont.

Sweet & simple cabin living, "Little House " is just two miles to Maple Corner & Curtis Pond and 8 miles to Montpelier. Small, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin on 6.5 open acres. The perfect spot for a Vermont vacation - or staycation. Or extend your stay and work remotely.

Mountain & meadow views. Outdoor shower, cozy screened porch, Heat pump/AC (not in each bedroom but in the open living space), high speed Fiber Wi-Fi, well water, solar panels, mature blueberry bushes, strawberries, apple trees, lilacs and perennials.

Sunny, bright, simple interior. Wood and tile floors. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Fabulous star gazing. Prime firefly viewing. Mowed walking paths (and a tent site should you wish to pop a tent) and immediate access to many local trails and dirt roads great for walking, running or biking.

There are plenty of opportunities to see and hear wildlife from the house. We regularly hear coyotes, owls and other birds (if you get really lucky, you may hear a loon from nearby Bliss Pond).

Within 2 miles you will find: Curtis Pond (swim area and boat launch), The Maple Corner Community Store (and US Post Office), The Whammy Bar (food and live music Thursday - Saturday), The Maple Corner Community Center, The Old West Church, The Kent Tavern (with stone walking labyrinth) and an amazing art show in the fall, The Robinson Sawmill, The Adamant Music School, The Adamant Co-op, The Adamant Community Club, Peck Farm Orchard and Templeton Farm.

Calais and Montpelier (Exit 8 off Interstate 89) are located in Central Vermont. You can easily get to "The Valley" the Waitsfield/Warren area (Exit 9) or to the Stowe/Waterbury area (Exit 10) in under 40 mins. Burlington and Lake Champlain is just under one hour North on Interstate 89.

Things you WILL NOT find at Little House: TV, cable, microwave or dishwasher. No harsh cleaners or detergents. Carpeting, scented candles or air "fresheners." Food delivery services or Uber/Lift.

Please note: both bathrooms are very small. There is no bathtub.

"Little House" is my primary home.
In spring 2022 I purchased a small "tiny house" for myself as a remote office space. It is situated in the back corner of the property (far from the main house, with a separate driveway). During your stay I may be in the tiny house with my medium Goldendoodle, Bleu, traveling, or staying near by. Please note my early 20’s son lives in the basement apartment. There is a separate entrance. He works for a local non-profit media company and makes himself scarce when we have guests. But he can also be called upon should you need anything! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, feel free to message me if you wish to book an extended stay ( different rates would apply) or if you have a special event or request for dates that are currently "blocked out" on the availability calendar. Thank you! ~Jennifer of Little House

Perfect for what we needed… clean, quiet, and simple! Would definitely come back. Since we were there visiting family, we didn’t have time to check out the property trails, but will next time!

A break in Vermont
Our stay at the "Little House" was very good and Jennifer provided very helpful information. It is well equipped with all you need for a relaxing time. The house is a very short trip from Montpellier in the countryside and a highlight of our stay at the "Little House" was seeing a bear cross the road as we drove back from Montpellier to the house. If you plan to visit the Ben & Jerry's factory, a must if you like ice cream, do so early in the morning as the road to the factory can get very busy.

A real gem in the green hills of Vermont
We spent 3 nights at Jennifer's "Little House" and had an amazing time! The house is beautiful, we loved the design and style with the exposed wooden beams. Our favourite spots were the screened-in porch, the seating area in front of the house that gets direct morning sun, and the comfy living room. The house is very well equipped and we had everything we needed, including some hiking guide books and board games. Besides the regular bathrooms, there is also an outdoor shower (with hot water) which I recommend trying! We used the house as a base to explore the area, including trips to Stowe and nearby waterfalls, Montpelier, and Glover to see a show by theater troupe Bread & Puppet. If we come back to Vermont we would definitely stay at Jennifer's place again!

Peaceful stay
Jennifer's Little House was exactly what we hoped for. The house is really beautiful. It has a peaceful porch on the back off the kitchen. Everything was just so well done and pretty. Very comfortable living room, bedroom upstairs was perfect with a big sliding door (for air as no upper deck) that looked out onto meadows. We only occasionally caught glimpses of her son that lives in the basement when he came and went. Never heard him. There's a wonderful outdoor shower, too, and walking trails! And we were lucky enough to be there during blueberry season! Highly recommend! Adamant co-op, maple corner, and Morse farm for maple creamees all very close. We went to Friday cookout at Adamant,. Open mic at Maple corner, and had a few maple creamees!

Something special in Calais Vermont
In the prettiest Vermont setting, Little House wins your heart. I did not expect the inside to live up the outside vistas, but it does. An artist decorated the cabin with color and light and vintage decor. Plush cotton towels, soft cotton sheets and scented wrapped soaps. An outdoor fire pit and charcoal grill, both of which we used and enjoyed. I left refreshed and relaxed. I can't wait to go back.

Beautiful, serene, convenient, well-appointed
Jennifer’s home was incredibly lovely and was a great home base for our family of 4 for our 5-day stay in Vermont. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The surrounding gardens and meadows were beautiful, especially at night when they were lit up by fireflies-just magical. Jennifer was super kind and accessible—available to answer questions and provide us with anything we needed. A wonderful stay!

Cozy Cottage!
I have always wanted to visits Vermont and this little cottage checked all of the boxes. Cute, cozy and comfortable in an out of the way location. Wether you plan to explore Vermont or just want a quiet place for R&R this place is it. Although we were here for all things fall, this would be a great base for cross country skiing in the winter. Thank you Jennifer for creating such a nice space.

I wouldn't change a thing! Clean, but warm and welcoming. Uncluttered, but something interesting or beautiful wherever you look. Thoughtful touches throughout and check in was a breeze. I know who I'm going to try to get ahold of should I decide to set up a vacation rental!

Great Stay
Our trip to Calais was wonderful. Jennifer was a great host. She even provided us with a calendar of local events in Calais which was an incredibly charming community. Everything in the listing is 100% accurate. A beautiful home on a great piece of property with a small hiking area and excellent wildlife. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay so we didn't have to eat out unless we wanted to check out a local restaurant. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations for our trip. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Our new home away from home!
We are already missing the Little House and the beautiful property it's situated on. Jennifer's listing is very accurate, and the home is even better in person- cozy, sweetly decorated, well equipped (we did a lot of cooking while there!), and comfortable. We especially loved having a late-night glass of wine on the screened-in porch, exploring the lovingly-tended surrounding land, and nibbling on blueberries from the nearby patch. Jennifer's son lives in a basement apartment below the house, which was perfectly fine and hardly noticeable. As noted in her listing, he was rarely home- when he was, we only knew by seeing his truck. We came with our 3 year old and he loved the selection of toys and children's books she left out for us. He could navigate the steep wooden staircase comfortably, however, there are two baby gates already set up in the home to keep younger toddlers/crawlers safe. Little things we appreciated were Jennifer's support in managing our compost over our 10 day stay, access to a washer/dryer/clothesline, the outdoor shower, and the easy trip down to the corner store at Maple Corner in the instance we needed to grab an item or two. Strong WiFi signal, no issues connecting. We're already planning our trip back next year!

Jennifer was an excellent and responsive host. The property was expertly maintained, clean and had everything we needed to enjoy an extended stay. Jennifer also took the extra time to baby-proof for us and provided toys and books which weren’t part of the listing. Looking forward to a future visit. PS: come during blueberry season!
