All of pools were quite cold-- I was sold on this property because it said it had a hot tub. The hot tub was located in the spa area and only accessible for an extra $35/day. Other than that, the property is absolutely stunning and one of a kind. Rooms were very comfortable and modern. Excellent service.

We had a pool suite for a family of 4, and the room was enormous and so luxurious. The bed was very comfortable, and my children said that the sofa bed was too. We absolutely loved the pool on the balcony. Breakfast was very busy, and an amazing number of guests somehow manage to drop food on the floor. The staff were quick to clean it up and replenish the food. We had buffet dinner once and that was really nice. There was a good selection of food that was constantly topped up. The pools were excellent, but it was slightly annoying that other guests hogged the sunbeds by placing towels on them early in the day but didn't go there until later.

Sadly last visit
I am sad to write this review as we absolutely loved this hotel a few years ago. Last year there were signs of change and this year very clearly things had changed. Although, we were given the room we requested, so Thankyou😊 Firstly, when we arrived on my way to the room, I saw a mouse running frantically through the dark corridor🐁. I let reception know and their response surprised me. They just said ‘Thankyou for letting us know, we will inform housekeeping’. That was it, we heard no more! My husband followed it up the next day, and we felt they were trying to say I didn’t see it! They explained they have a company come in to control all pests and that the company only came the week before. It was not a good start. As others have pointed out, the sunbeds around the infinity pool come at a cost! Hence they are nearly always empty, which doesn’t look good. This is the first time we have not had the premium package. The reason being it has gone up substantially! It does influence the whole feel of the stay. For example, whilst the breakfast was very good, the experience was awful….searching for a table, finding staff to clear it, queuing for omelettes or poached eggs, and the noise level was dreadful. I could go on, but I will just say, it was a wonderful hotel, but for us, not anymore.

Overall our stay was great, the hotel is absolutely beautiful like the rest of the island. The front desk staff and house keeping were wonderful, the only note I would add is that the servers in the restaurants sometimes seemed less than friendly and at points annoyed with seemingly simple requests. I would recommend staying here but given the price point I would have appreciated a more welcoming environment when dining with them. There are some wonderful restaurants in the area that you can go to as an alternative.

Amazing resort on the edge of the Atlantic. We rented a car from the airport for our stay. Driving conditions are unfamiliar for North American drivers (lots of high inclines and declines with blind turns etc) but the roads are in excellent condition. The resort has a relaxing atmosphere, variety of food options, and good leisure. It may not offer the excess and variety of Mexican resorts but the scenery more than makes up for it. It has been our favourite place to visit thus far and we are already trying to find the next trip to return.

Facilities were great with little touches like sweets on the pillow. Room had clear damage/marks on the walls not repaired and the service was mostly average with one breakfast at the buffet were we didn’t get seen to at all and had find servers ourselves. Hotel facilities and options were great.

Such a wonderful hotel! The restaurants are amazing, the property incredible, and the surrounding area of Calheta was much preferred over the hustle and bustle of Funchal. The day spa at Saccharum is a must! Walking through the sensory showers was an experience I will never forget!

A beautiful hotel with a lovely infinity pool overlooking the sea, and the staff are excellent. The food was good but expensive. We found it much better value to eat at the nearby restaurants at the marina. We found our room and balcony (with half ocean view) lovely, but the bathroom facilities are a very odd design and lack privacy. It's very strange that there's no shower room door, particularly given that the shower entrance is opposite the main hotel room door! I would recommend this hotel for a luxury stay in a beautiful location.

Nice hotel but not a 5 star imo
Very nice hotel with a beautiful view of the ocean. We loved the infinity pool. We didn't love the bathroom set up which included a shower workout a door. Pool area on top floor was nice but lacked stable wifi and no bar service at the chairs. You have to walk up to a bar to get a drink. There was not a store in the hotel so had to walk 3 blocks to get sunscreen.
