Vauxhall Cottage is a hidden gem - a 3 bedroom detached cottage a short stroll from Chepstow's historic town centre: handy for shops and amenities - with easy access to the countryside.
Dating from 1790s, the updated and comfortable home has a large farmhouse kitchen, big lounge, garden room, patio, private garden and parking - making a fantastic base for 2 to 6 guests. The location perfectly combines the conveniences of Chepstow town with the Wye Valley, forest walks, castles and other attractions.
The heart of Vauxhall Cottage is the wonderfully large kitchen - a great place to gather with family and friends. Featuring a big pine dining table and chairs, an island with stools, and plenty of seating, the kitchen is a light and airy social space. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals, with a double oven, pots and pans, and a generous fridge with freezer compartment, and a double Belfast sink.
Guests can also enjoy the spacious and comfortable living room, with two sofas and additional chairs, wood burning stove, and TV. The large "understairs" cupboard in the lounge is packed full of games. Alternatively, the bright and sunny garden room overlooking the patio is a great place to curl up with a cuppa and a book - or to complete one of the jigsaws!
If someone needs to work or catch-up on email, whilst away - there is a private study room with a desk - this room has a tiled floor and is right by the back door, so could alternatively be used for keeping hike boots, pets, bicycles, etc. The bookshelf in the study might offer some new reading material too. Also downstair is a utility room, with a sink and washing machine, and a handy downstairs loo and coat cupboard.
Upstairs, the large master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a king-sized bed, with views across Chepstow and the Wye Valley. The second bedroom is along the landing, and can be configured as a double room (with super-king bed) or as a twin-bed room with two single beds, whilst the cosy third bedroom has a double bed. All bedrooms have drawers and wardrobes or hanging space. There is a family bathroom upstairs, with a shower and big roll-top bath.
Outside there is a good sized private cottage garden, which has an area of lawn, and is fenced and secure for dogs. The patio area is a real sun trap, with a table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ. In the spring and summer, guests may be lucky enough to enjoy a stunning aerial display from visiting swifts, especially on the kitchen side of the house.
Vauxhall Cottage is accessed through the garden from a covered off-road parking area, with parking for 2 cars (or 3 if one parks sideways across the front).
As an older cottage, it's a cozy place for two, yet updates in recent years offer plenty of flexible space for larger groups of family or friends, or colleagues coming for a work trip.

We moved from Vauxhall Cottage in December 2022 after our children grew up, and have since decorated and refreshed the cottage ready to welcome guests. Originally the cottage as it stands now was divided into two or three homes for quarry workers. In our time, we added a large kitchen and ensuite bedroom, and the garden room, and joined two smaller rooms into a large living room. As Vauxhall Cottage has recently been a family home, it offers up-to-date facilities you expect, whilst retaining bags of character. The cottage is professionally cleaned and prepared ready for your visit. We live 10 minutes away now, so you'll have the place all to yourselves - but we're on hand if needed!
Chepstow is a pretty and friendly town, with plenty of amenities. The town has a castle, which dates from 1067, and a lovely riverbank area - you might be luck and spot Sammy the Seal! The M&S Foodhall is a few minutes walk from the cottage, and Tesco is a five minute drive. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, pubs and takeaways in the town too - all an easy stroll away after a day of adventure!
