Feel at home with us!
Our holiday home with antique trullo area is situated at the end of a service road, 2 km from Serranova, in a very quiet location.
Surrounded by old olive trees, you can enjoy pure nature on one of the terraces with delicious barbecue/grill and a glass of good Primitivo or Negroamaro - while your children might romp around the house or go exploring.
Even if it rains, you can stay outside under the canopy.
For refreshment, there is a pool (2 x5 m 1.20 deep) by piscine laghetto directly on the large south-facing terrace, which is equipped with automatic Ph control and skin-friendly salt electrolysis for water treatment (technology in the storeroom). A pool service comes for pool cleaning and control.
In operation from May to the end of October.
When it is cool in spring or late autumn, an open fireplace warms the living-bedroom ( daybed-sofa, single bed and private bathroom, TV set for use of e.g. DVDs ) located next to the kitchen.
Mobile catalytic gas heaters ( bottle approx, 25€) are also available. For the use of the air-conditioning ( none in the fireplace room ) for heating there are additional costs after arrangement.
In the main room (50 sqm) with the big dining table, the former 'veranda', you will find an internet TV set with German satellite programme or with own !! account usable apps like Nexflix, furthermore DVD player, radio/CD and a small library. Here you can use the microwave, fridge/freezer and pizza oven.
The rustic kitchen with gas hob/electric oven offers coffee/espresso machine and a lot of kitchen utensils, as we use the house mostly ourselves.
Besides the two sleeping possibilities in the fireplace room, there is a bedroom with a double bed (2x80=160), a dressing room, bathroom with toilet and bidet, without shower.
Another bedroom off the main room has a 180 cm wide bed and a shower room with washing machine.
All windows and doors have fly screens.
An alarm system with radio link to the security service protects the house.
There is plenty of space for wood - barbecue ambitions in a separate barbecue hut with sink.
A mobile gas outdoor barbecue , garden shower, sunbeds, parasols (also for the beach) are available.
The region has the lowest earthquake risk in Italy.
Slight slope, free view into the nature: Our property is situated on one of the last hills of the ending 'murge',covering 10000 sqm.
A 60m long illuminated driveway leads from the rolling gate to the house.
The slight slope gives a beautiful view to the south over a rock garden with Mediterranean plants and the uneven terraced landscape with many olive trees, which unfortunately already carry the bacterium Xylella, which makes the trees slowly dry up, a drama in the whole region. Around the house you can move around, sit under the wooden-covered terraces, on the open south terrace or under the wine pergola.
A small part of the property on the west side belongs to a friend, is rarely used and the exterior is left rather "natural". You can book it if you want to spend your holidays with friends (approx. 50 sqm, 2 rooms, max 4 p).
Discover the fig trees (a particularly splendid one is in front of the house), they offer ripe fruit in June, August and September.
At night you can hear the calls of owls, nightjars and crickets, in the high season during the day - loud! the cicadas and songbirds. Capers (beautiful flowers!) could be harvested in early summer and grapes in August/September. In this open, rural location, semi-feral cats may pass by, eager to be fed. Questions about this are welcome in person.
Here you will directly experience a lot of nature and in the surrounding area a lot of cultural plus bathing fun, maybe the ideal mixture?
Contact person on site: Our friend Tonino Iaia, who runs the grocery shop in Serranova, keeps the keys and is happy to take care of any problems.
He helped us to find a house in 2001 and enjoys our absolute trust, also in financial matters. He speaks German, French and English.
In his shop you can get a very good espressino and sandwiches, aperitivi, sprizz with appetisers. It is also the bar of the village and is therefore clearly the centre of communication.
Tonino and his shop have often been the subject of newspaper articles, TV reports and travel books, far from the tourist crowds and preserving a special atmosphere.
In Serranova, you can buy local ( !) olive oil cheaply at the cooperative's oil mill.
In a large tent building at the entrance to the village, good meat is roasted on a spit on wood - very simply - and recently pizza has also been offered.
A little beyond the village entrance, a dance hall (see photo) is run in the classical style in summer.
From the house, the main road leads to a small crossroads on the right. To the left is the 'Cripta San Biagio' (not open to the public to protect the frescoes), to the right and about 200 m further on to the right, the Fattoria 'Da Tedesco' offers regional meat, salami and ham specialities from its own breeding (also game) for sale in the shop and in the restaurant.
On the first weekend in August, the patron saint festival in honour of Maria Goretti takes place. The statue of Maria is in the amazingly large church, a relic from the time when the place was very busy after the land reform in the 50s.
We have decided to leave the property largely natural. The weeds are ploughed under or cut off and the plants adapted to the climate are given space. Almond, olive, fig, pomegranate (Oct.) and mulberry trees (May) belong to the region. Fruit trees such as apple, pear, apricot, which would have to be sprayed and watered constantly, are gradually taking their leave. Our grapes are not sprayed and are still sometimes good, sometimes worse. Mediterranean plants go dormant during the summer heat and often flower again in autumn or even in winter. Little watering in summer also means fewer opportunities for mosquitoes to breed.
The main beach Punta Penna Grossa of the nature reserve is well frequented in August. Other beautiful and increasingly empty bays follow in the direction of Torre Guaceto. (see photos) It takes about an hour to walk along the water to the end of the reserve. Other hiking trails lead through the dunes. Since 2017, access by car has been restricted to a nearby car park during the high season, for a fee. However, this includes a transfer to the main beach by tram or minibus. (parks.it/riservatoditorreguaceto.it) Another transfer directly to the "spiaggia delle conchiglie" at the Torre may also be organised from the Lido boa gialla ( boagialla.it/boa-gialla-torre-guaceto) towards Apani. You can also rent bicycles there. the ideal way to get there is by bike anyway. The medium beautiful beaches between Punta Penna Grossa and the Torre are not so busy even in the high season.
There are other beaches with lidos in the area (Specchiolla, Torre Santa Sabina, Ostuni also with a free dogbeach), as well as chic beach clubs on the coast towards Brindisi, but many say that the T.G. nature reserve is the most beautiful. Everything is to be found on googlemaps.
