To start with, there was absolutely no information given upon confirmation of the booking about how to access the property, so I had to call the owner who eventually called back with the code to the key safe.
When I entered the property it soon became clear that the listing for this property is completely misleading. It says that you're booking the "Entire place...You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party."
As I was travelling alone, I expected to have the place to myself. Instead I got a room in a shared house, with shared use of all of the other facilities listed: bathroom, kitchen, outdoor space etc. There were clearly other people staying there at the same time.
When I called the owner and explained that I couldn't stay there (medical condition that makes sharing with strangers out of the question), that the listing had been misleading, they just said, words to the effect, 'OK, sorry'. They didn't explain why they they were being misleading in the booking and they didn't offer a refund.
I reported this to Expedia, and was told that it was up to the property's owner, not them, to offer the refund.
To be fair, the photos etc in the listing are accurate and the place looked ok. If you're happy to share with other guests, that's fine. As for me, it looks like I've lost / wasted my money. Don't waste yours.
