Whilst staying on the estate, a visit to Hardwick Hall, an Elizabethan masterpiece, is a must! Take a stroll around the house and enjoy finding out more about the history of the building and its remarkable owner, Bess of Hardwick. Or why not stretch your legs and take a walk in the picturesque parkland or peaceful gardens?
A little further away you will find the delights of the Peak District National Park, including Chatsworth House and the wonderful town of Matlock, as well as some stunning countryside to explore. The historic market town of Chesterfield, which acts as the ‘gateway to the Peak District National Park’, is found only a few miles away. Chesterfield is well-known for its 14th-century church with its famous crooked spire. Also popular with visitors is the semi-rural 17th-century mansion, Bolsover Castle, steeped in history and set high on a wooded hilltop looking west towards the heights of the beautiful Peak District.
In nearby Nottinghamshire you can visit Nottingham Castle or Sherwood Forest to go on a Robin Hood treasure hunt! Close by, the small village of Teversal offers a visitor centre and great access to the Teversal and Pleasley Trails, perfect for enjoying a variety of walks and cycle paths.
