It was a suggested hotel for me while browsing hotel and flight packages, I was a little hesitant as I never heard of the Citizen M brand before, having stayed in a Chicago a few times this was the first time hearing of them. It was a wonderfully artistically decorated hotel that caught my attention every time I walked in or out of my room. Daily I would find something new that I hadn't seen before and appreciate the hotels designer even more. Some reviews state the staff wasn't friendly, but I was greeted and helped by an assistant the first day and every day until checkout was greeted by staff. Breakfast was well worth the additional add on price, as it's a buffet of all types of foods for everyone that allows you to have any coffee or tea your heart desires for the hour or so your stomach needs before tapping out. The bar from what I could see was full service, perfect for those rainy days when you want to leave your room but not go outside. They did have a kitchen with a pretty small but mighty menu and the portions were comparable to those of any restaurants in the area. Again perfect for when you didn't want to leave the hotel. Checking in and out are done by a computer at the lobby. Checkout was a breeze but checking in took a minute or so longer but anyone who's played candy crush should be able to navigate their modern approach to service. If not, the receptionist/assistant is in the area and can help with no problem.

The staffs at the check-in were super friendly and they're so supportive! This is my secod time staying in Citizen M, the first time was at LA and this time is in Chicago, I really loved staying this hotel. Everything is so new and clean. I strongly recommend you to stay here for perfect travel!

Overnight, my room lost power, so I woke up in complete darkness and was unable to turn on any lights. I called the front desk for assistance, and after over 30 minutes without help, I called again. The front desk said someone had come to my door but left because of a “do not disturb” sign. Considering that I had just called for help, I would have expected them to knock?! After the second call, someone finally came and fixed the issue, but by then I was running late to check out. I requested a complimentary late checkout, and the repairman informed me that he would pass along the request. However, I never received confirmation from the front desk, so I had to pack quickly and go down to check out. Front desk was again dismissive and said they never got the request. When I explained my frustration with the power outage and their lack of response, the property manager, Liz, offered me a 25% discount. Since I had booked through Hotels.com, she assured me that she would note this in my reservation, and I could request the discount through Hotels.com. Unfortunately, when I reported to Hotels.com and they reached out to claim the discount, the property denied approving it. ​Because I didn’t get Liz’s full name or ID, they continued to dispute my experience and did not honor the discount. The customer service and follow-through were truly disappointing, and my experience was ultimately dismissed. Do not stay here, this property clearly does not value their guests' experiences.

The good: Wonderful view if you pay the little bit extra for it. Clean room. Quiet all day and night. Room controls were cool and worked as expected. Premises overall was clean, well decorated, and had a modern/artsy feel. Staff was friendly. The bad: Nothing awful but, - No wall outlets near the bed. If you have a 15 ft cord it may be able to reach the bed. Mine is 10 and did not reach. - If you are a hot shower person, you will be disappointed. I would characterize the hot water as lukewarm. Was there for seven days, that’s as hot as it ever got. - Delivery people apparently not permitted to deliver to your door, you must go get your food from the lobby. I say “apparently” because about half the deliveries did come to my door. Other half were given to the concierge and placed behind the front desk. Other folks may not mind this at all. For me personally though call me lazy or whatever you like but if I’d known I’d have to trek down ten floors to go ask the concierge if I can please have my food, I honest to god would have booked somewhere else. So I’m including this for the other hermits. To be clear I do not in any way blame the staff, I’m sure it the policy and they’re just doing their jobs.
