The Whalen House

Savor the tranquility of the Oregon Coast and let stress melt away in the private hot tub when you stay at this bayfront home for 10 (and two dogs!).

Placed right in between Tierra Del Mar and Cloverdale, this charming home is a great destination for your family or friends. Spend time relaxing around the house, walking out the back door to beautiful Sand Lake, or even driving to nearby cities for shopping and dining.

Kick your feet up in the living room while warming yourself by the fire and reading a book, or settle into the window seat in the family room to lounge and watch a movie on the TV (cable and a DVD player are attached).

The kitchen has everything (major and small appliances) you'll need to keep everyone happy and full. After a delicious home-cooked meal, play board games across either of the dining room tables, then head outside to watch the sunset and soak in the hot tub while the kids and dogs run and play. Please note that there is a nightly fee, and the dogs must stay downstairs.

When night falls, retreat to any of the four bedrooms for a good night's rest. All 10 guests will have a place to sleep as this home has a king-size bed, three queens, one twin, one futon, and one sofabed available.

Two full bathrooms, a laundry room, and in-home WiFi complete the amazing list of amenities here.

Stroll through quaint Tierra Del Mar after a morning walk or jog on the beach. Rent or bring kayaks and paddleboards to explore the coast by water. Sand Lake is great for more than just water activities, though. Large sand dunes surround the lake and are the perfect landscape for ATV and dune buggy riding.

If you're looking to explore a bigger city, Pacific City is five miles south for horseback riding, shopping, and dining. And don't miss stopping by Cape Kiwanda on the way there or back to hike around and snap some amazing photos.

Casual and comfortable, this Tierra Del Mar home is a wonderful spot for your next Oregon Coast getaway.

If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.

Avoid Vacasa
We were informed the day before we were supposed to check in that the water would be turned off for 5-6 hours on the 2nd day of our stay and that we would need to boil our drinking water for the remainder of our stay. My husband has is recovering from cancer, has a weak immune system, and limited mobility. We rented a house with a water view so that we could be self-contained and safe, away from other people. "Glamping" was not in the plan! Vacasa refused to refund our money, discount the trip, or let us reschedule. They offered to buy bottled water, but didn't care that my husband can't go 5-6 hours without a working restroom and that we'd need to heat water to wash our hands and dishes. Seems like they can schedule any sort of maintenance during your stay. Renter beware!! (I can't speak to the cleanliness of the house since we didn't stay in it.)

Was ok at first, but then..
I was ok at first. But things happened throughout the stay that made the house unpleasant. I kept reporting things but nothing was done to fix the problem. I was told the next guest wouldn't have my problems. What topped it was my child was pulling sheets, like requested by property, and found the prior guests male underwear in the sheets. How disgusting. Nothing has been done to compensate us for sleeping on dirty beds. The area was great.

Place needs maintenance!
The check in process was smooth, and the property could be so magical….. BUT, the house needed some MAJOR maintenance, and this was the end of June! The yard was a complete disaster, with weeds taller than a grown adult. Online the yard looks so pristine, in person the yard could not be enjoyed at all. The fire pit was nonexistent, and the grill didn’t work. One of the outdoor chairs was broken and looked like it had been thrown in the yard. The inside needed windows and cobwebs cleaned. Be advised, the house does NOT have direct access to the lake. The house was definitely unique and had some cool aspects but is not ready for the season at all.

Whalen House
We stayed at the Whalen house for 3 nights. The house wasn't as clean as we were hoping. This was our biggest con to the place. The location is good. I do feel like Vacasa or the advetiser should show how close this house is to the road out front with a picture. This caught us by surprise. We had to back in so we didn't back onto the main road when leaving the house. It is definetly a older house from the carpet to the smell of the place. Not all bad just don't think that this is a new place. The place is big which is nice if you are going with alot people.

Vacation
Love this house. Location is wonderful. Close to beach and private. The house is HUGE!!! Will stay again even with issues with.. Very little hot water for bathing/ showers And no extra blankets for the hideaway or fold out beds. Kitchen is extremely well stocked and appliances hold lots of food. We always cook our own food and had plenty of room for staples and left overs. Hmm...could use some deck lights also but we plan on coming back... thank you Anita

Good for a family group
Second stay for us here. A comfortable place, until bedtime. One queen bed too hard, one king bed too soft. Door to front garden hard to open/close, door from entry needs a retro fit and handle came off, bathroom door in master virtually impossible to open/close and someone kicked it in. Pots and pans need a review. Love the grounds and garden.

Quaint home needs TLC!
This beautiful little house has a gorgeous yard, foliage, great layout and is conveniently located. HOWEVER, It is in desperate need of care and maintenance. My husband reinstalled three screens on windows that were just sitting beside the house outside, we had to clean pots, pans, silverware, kitchen utensils, etc. before we use them. The drawers in the kitchen have flour or something spilled in them and it is meshed in the utensils. The grill took over an hour to clean before we could use it—The master bathroom door does not open without great difficulty as it needs to be adjusted in size, and has damage apparently from the effort it takes to open it. Several windows don’t have screens so if we open them for the cool, beautiful evening air, bugs would come in. Cobwebs, dead bugs, dirt, etc. in windowsills cracks and crevices as well as skylights. At the front entrance, we were met with a sign to remove our shoes, which we did, and our feet and socks were brown and gross from walking on the floors!! We vacuumed and still had to put a blanket down for the baby to play on the floor or anyone to sit there. Damage to several old pieces of furniture made it sketchy to use—the coffee table in the living room is broken. All beds were old and way too soft/sunken. It needs a good cleaning, and it needs to be cared for by somebody who will do the maintenance. It is a beautiful home and location, but it needs attention. It was sad to see the neglect of such a beautiful older space. Oh—and we contacted the manager prior to arrival for information and was given incorrect info, such as we had to bring our own firewood when there was plenty there….complete with an axe to chop the bigger logs. So sad to see the neglect—not worth the $ when we had to do so much to make our 8 night stay doable.

Our family came to the beach for a getaway. The house is big and roomy. There was a lot of space and and it was a comfortable place to be hidden away from the stormy weather outside. The kitchen is well equipped and the hot tub is very nice too. The house is on Sandlake Rd, which is a busy road, but the noise did not bother us.

The house was as described. Plea ty of room and really cute. There were a lot of sleeping spaces, more than listed. The kitchen has everything we needed my only problem was there were a lot of ants in every room so you have to be very careful to not leave ANYTHING out. Besides that we had a very nice trip and loved the space.

A perfect home for a family reunion!
We rented this home for a reunion of family from Oregon, Washington, Chicago & The Netherlands and it was perfect for us. The bedrooms were spacious, there was an amazing view from the porch & the spacious living room. The kitchen was enormous and well stocked with dishes & cookware. The only point I want to point out it the 5th step from the bottom going upstairs is apparently damaged (perhaps the lip is broken) and caused my son to slip on his way down the stairs last evening. Thankfully he was not injured at all. We would definitely rent this house again!

Nice stay, needs a few details addressed.
Stovetop knobs are broken. We could not find garbage bags. The gas fireplace would not turn on. Propane tank for the outside grill was empty. I recommend shades on the bedroom windows as it was hard to sleep. King bed was extremely comfortable. Plenty of room for our family. Fenced in yard was great. Overall very peaceful and quiet place to stay. We would stay there again.

Not ready for prime time
This is an older home with additions that give it a funky layout. The space itself is good for two families vacationing together. The downside was a pervasive musty odor, mold/mildew on the main bathroom ceiling, soft subfloor around the main toilet, a large rug in the master suite that was a mosaic of dog urine stains (smelled awful), the main livingroom thermostat failed in the "on" setting and had to be turned off at the breaker box, and the view of the bay from the wonderfully large living room windows is obscured by trees and hedges. Worse was that the local phone number given to me in the Vacasa check-in email, went unanswered after 20 minutes and 30 minutes of hold music, on two separate days when Itried to call for help on these items. Things that were nice: hot tub, kitchen, water pressure and heat for showers, fresh paint in the living room. After emailing vacasa, the local rep, Lonnie, was very gracious and worked to mitigate the problems.
