The Silo is a very unique experience, and we invite you to experience it! The Silo is exactly that – a guest room built inside a grain bin. It has all the traditional furnishings of a hotel room – a great bed, table with chairs, refrigerator, and microwave – but it does not have television, running water, or an indoor bathroom. It does have electricity, wi-fi, propane heat, and dishes and silverware. It also has a shaded outdoor kitchenette with a cook stove and an outdoor restroom facility (a toilet and solar shower built in a large culvert). Best of all, The Silo has spectacular views.
We provide basic kitchen supplies, a picnic table, cook stove, fresh water, bedding, linens, coffee, and board games, but the environment provides the best experience. If you are lucky, you’ll get to listen to the rain on the tin roof or the coyotes singing on the hills. Some days, our horses roam the property, and every day, our dog will stop to say hello. In the fall, you'll also hear the elk bugle. But be warned, the wind might wake you with its own loud lullaby. In the morning, watch for deer crossing on the hillside, or step across the drive to view the elk and buffalo on the neighbor’s game ranch.
The outdoor bathroom facility is built from a large culvert and includes a pit toilet and solar-heated shower. A propane fire pit is also provided as well as private parking in front of the Silo.
We get good cell service and data connection with T-Mobile at The Silo. The wifi is being extended from the house, so it's strong enough to check your email but not capable of streaming movies or video chatting. However, high speed internet (and coffee and continental breakfast) is available at the Sunroom, which is a short walk away.
At the Sunroom, the enclosed porch on the front of our house, we offer coffee and continental breakfast (ie. fruit, oatmeal, muffins), an assortment of cold drinks and water, and high-speed wi-fi. It's all self-serve and available anytime during daylight hours.
We welcome a house trained and well behaved pet (maximum 1) who likes to sleep in their own bed on the floor and gets along well with other dogs. We provide pet bowls and sheets; please bring your own pet bed, food, and other supplies.
During the summer, you can access the Silo in a 2-wheel drive car, but the roads can get bumpy or muddy quickly (check out the road video by scanning the QR code in the photos). We recommend driving a vehicle with 4-wheel drive in late fall to early spring as the weather can be unpredictable. If you aren't sure, please ask us about the current conditions of the road.
We will send you a reservation confirmation message shortly after you book your stay, and we will send you another message either the day before or the day of your arrival. If you make your reservation through Expedia, please check your VRBO account and/or email for our messages. Sometimes these messages go to your junk mail, so please check your spam folder too if you haven't heard from us!
