Bathroom ceiling leaked significantly through the trip. The rooms were so humid everything was damp causing concrete to crack and age. Food and beverages are slightly worse than typical all inclusive

Went to Cozumel so I could dive. Once arriving on my first day, I went to the dive shop to book dives as usual. The staff said sorry señor I am booked for the week. I have no open spots. That was the first since I’ve been going to Cozumel That a dive shop was not able to. Accommodate me.. The second issue we had was the music at the pool. Several people asked the staff to turn down the music, so we could talk to each other. The entertainment director said we could go to our room if we didn’t like it. It was an activity area. I went to the front desk, asking to speak to the manager with five other guests, they did nothing. I do think the waiters and waitresses did a fantastic job, the food was good. The third issue was cruise ship guests invading the resort, from my understanding the cruise ship has a deal worked out with the resort that cruze guests can come and eat and drink all they want for $25 a day. So during the day there was 40 to 50 people from different cruise lines with kids and diapers swimming in the pool. They only had one pool. I would not go there a second time because of the three issues we had

we bought the elite package and got excellent food on a separate menu from the regular all inclusive. supposed to get premium liquor on elite but did not get what we got in the past. just a couple of liquors or wines total that we got that the regulars did not. problem at check in when girl delayed our getting 1 bedroom suite for hours and tried to get us to accept a less expensive room over and over. bad experience. reported her to Fransisco the manager and we had our room in 10 minutes. he also got us a bottle of wine that was on the elite list.

This was our second time staying at El Cid. It is a great place for snorkeling, employees are nice, the menu was good, property is clean. The only problem we had was the sewage in our room, which they moved us to a different room and we were very happy with. I wish the breakfast had more options.

First, the positives. Balcony room was huge. Two full bathrooms and in great shape. Bed was very comfortable if you like a pillow top mattress. A/C worked great. Even though just one restaurant and bar with the all inclusive, the food was good with lots of choices. The staff was friendly and the resort was super clean. Now the negatives. The beach is tiny and rocky and shoes are needed to walk in. All the drinks we had from the bar tasted like they used mixes with artificial sweetener. They just had that weird aftertaste. I like my beer and American whiskeys and bourbons. They only had two types of Mexican beer on tap that was all your beer choices. No American whiskey or bourbons on the basic all-inclusive. For an additional $35 a day per person, you could get Jim Beam or Jack Daniels but that’s it. I would expect a really top shelf bourbon for that much extra. Before check-in, their website and Travelocity said they charged $15 a day for an “Environmental Fee”, but they tried charging the environmental fee as well as a couple small others for $19 a day. Travelocity and their website never mentioned these additional fees. They finally had me sign a paper that let me take $2 off a day, but still stuck me with $17. Not a lot of money, but it just felt like they were trying to gig you for all they could. They tried upcharging for lots of drinks and food. Wi-Fi wasn’t free if we hadn’t gotten a room upgrade. El Cid wasn’t terrible but we’ll try a different place next time.

I’m really conflicted about this review. The property is in a great location, it’s clean, I have no complaints about the property. There is only one restaurant on this all inclusive property and the menu is limited. The issue with the entire property is staff. While there are a few that are amazing, the majority just don’t seem to care. Every morning for breakfast the tables are set with coffe cups and silverware excluding a spoon. They bring you coffee and cream but every morning you will have to ask for a spoon. Same with salt and pepper. It’s not on the table you have to ask for it. My biggest complaint is once your served your food thier done! They don’t check on you for refills or dessert, they all congregate in the corner by the bar and visit with each other. To be fair there were a couple that really put forth the effort. Edgar, and , Louise. I understand it’s not a Hilton, or Sandels owned property, but I still think they can do better. Property rating is 3 of 5. Staff rating is 2 of 5
