Disliked: Cleanliness
Hoped for expectations disappointed
We made the most of our stay in the property close to the picturesque village of Cresse, the location is promising surrounded by fields, streams and woods.
We inquired if the house was equipped to cater for 12 people and were told to ”read the info on line”, the promise given there gave assurance that the owners were next door and would try to answer any questions & provide help as necessary. The property needs a major overhaul of some of the equipment, (the face of the washing machine was rusted and oven with only 2 racks, not big enough to cater for 12 people, a number of the plates were cracked and there was no reception to the small portable television/video player our attempt to watch a video was unsuccessful as the picture grainy and out of focus) other fixtures and the internal decorations did not live up to the pictures on the web site, the drainage to the ground floor bathroom was not fit for purpose, even after we had cleared a considerable amount of hair from the bath outlet, shower water continued to build up in the bath and took minutes to clear. Bed linen, curtains and sun loungers have all seen better days, the mats on the Sun loungers were dirty and the security gate in the fence around the pool looks to be on its last legs. The yellow house guide book advised that that regular cleaning of the pool would take place I was aware of one inspection on one evening but there was little evidence of any actual cleaning, I cleared leaves from inspection chambers at the end of the pool on 2 occasions. This book mentioned that guests were responsible for cleaning the barbecue and stated that a charge of £25 would be made in the event that this was not carried out. When we arrived it was full of ash and needed a thorough clean before it could be used, we left it clean for the next visitors.
We specifically booked a property with WiFi/internet access but this was only available in the kitchen while we would not expect the performance to match that of a large town or city there were a number of occasions when it failed and the only way to get the modem rebooted was to leave a request on the windscreen of the owner's Peugeot parked on the drive.
On a number of occasions we knocked/ rang the bell at the owner's door but only once did we get a reply my wife introduced herself to the man who answered and assumed he was the owner. On the day of our departure attempts to contact the owner drew a blank.
There is much potential to be realized.
