Cute Bungalow in NewRiver Gorge National Park(sleeps 6, pet friendly)

We named this house Mample's because it was my grandmothers weekend get away. She loved the New River and wanted her family and friends to have a place to get away when they could. I remember weekends playing in that
front yard, just waiting on a train to go by so the engineer would blow his horn. The adults sitting on the porch watching us kids and enjoying the view of the River. Meadow Creek use to be a quaint little railroad town that has died off, with just residents and A LOT of good fishing and nostalgia. Mample's place sits right in the very heart of it. You can sit on the big front porch and look at the river behind what use to be a very busy store and watch what few trains that still go by. Use your imagination and you can be back in that little town visiting with the people on a Sunday afternoon. Or you can just get busy and FISH, Kayack, Canoe or hike Trails

Veterans Day Getaway
My husband and I had a 4 day weekend for Veterans day. We decided to take the Bridge Walk and explore some of the old coal towns in Nutallburg and Therman.

No Really - There are Trains
I booked this in a rush and did not read the reviews so we were surprised to learn that many trains pass RIGHT in front of the house and they blow LOUD horns right in front of you, including throughout the night. We were, however, like other guests reported, soothed right back to sleep by the sound of the train after the whistles blew the first night and we slept right through them the second night. We loved the Adirondack chairs on the porch as we sat and listened to the river. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed - but bring your own coffee if you need it in the morning.

W Va memory making trip
Everything great except we had added a day to our reservation thru VRBO and paid but they didn’t let the local host know. They said I had checked out at 5 am when I still had another night. I received hateful messages from VRBO and the local host and the state police while out sightseeing. Phone calls and texts got it corrected

Relaxing Stay
Home is older with a great front porch to sit and talk the day and nights away. House property is not directly on the river but that wasn’t important to us. Some nights had more trains than others. That didn’t bother us. Paint chips dropping from the ceiling did. It was an overall relaxing stay for 3 elderly sisters.

New River Gorge
Property was as described, older cottage and clean. In a very quiet neighborhood up the road from the National Park Sandstone Visitors Center. There was quite a bit of train activity, up to 6 passes in the middle of the night. We knew about it from other reviews and it didn’t really bother us. We woke up and fell back asleep.

Cute house reminded me of my great grandmothers
The house was old and has character. The train is loud as others have stated. You can walk right down to the river which is cool and we saw river otter tracks. Easy drive to West Virginia Adventures for rafting (about 40 mins). Drive through the lower portion of New River Gorge NP to get to the house. The host provided the correct address but VRBO has the house number wrong so that should be corrected to avoid confusion. Fenced yard great for pets and children. Beds were comfy and we enjoyed our stay.

Rustic Cabin in New River Gorge NP
Very rustic cottage, but clean and comfortable. I really appreciated the cottage's character (the beadboard walls and metal cabinets). The location was perfectly close to the national park and the highway which made traveling to other parts of the national park easy. My kids slept through the train and enjoyed seeing it pass during the day. I deducted a star because I didn't receive the check -in information prior to arrival.

Cozy home close to the river
We had a cozy stay in this house. My mother in law (from SC) described it as "authentic Appalachian living". :) It's not super fancy, and the train does come by multiple times at night, but that, in itself, was kind of a cool experience that you don't get everyday. We went down to the river for paddle boarding in the evenings and were hiking around New River Gorge in the day. It was a lovely trip with great memories made. Thanks for letting us stay.

Only issue was the proximity to the active railroad which went through all hours of each night. Other then that a good place to stay.

Beautiful WV getaway
The little house was exactly as described. It was very cute, spacious and comfortable. The bed was super comfortable and I’m picky about my bed! The train tracks are VERY close, but we enjoyed watching the trains go by. There were about 3 per night. The horns woke us but we were lulled back to sleep by the sound of the trains. The kitchen was well equipped but I suggest you bring your own spices if you plan to cook. The area is gorgeous and we were able to hike many trails throughout the park. Everyone we encountered was very nice. I would definitely come back again.

Nostalgic Living
We enjoyed our stay along the New River Gorge in Meadow Creek. The bungalow was kept simple with furnishings. The beaded ceiling molding for the walls and the ceiling with the massive baseboards are classic for the era it was built. The updated tub/shower and furnishings made it very comfortable. We enjoyed the trains as they came by. The distant rumble and blowing horns as they passed made it seem like a bygone era. It is a comfortable neighborhood. The mountains surround the town and the river is able to be seen from the front porch, and only a short walk to touch the water. We enjoy the New River Gorge era and this was a pleasant spot to base from for the southern area.

Adorable and Relaxing!
As soon as we walked through the door we were impressed with the home! It was so welcoming and warm! We spent 20 mins admiring all the different decorations! The bed were clean and comfy, as well as the rest of the house. The only thing we were surprised about were the trains that came through but we enjoyed watching them every time we heard the rumble. We will definitely be back for another visit!!

Short Stay for Our Visit to New River Gorge N.P.
Our family of 3 and our dog stayed 2 nights on our way from NJ to TN, allowing us to explore New River Gorge National Park. We arrived after dark, and had a hard time finding the property, as there was a slight discrepancy between the house number in the property listing and the address in the message we received with check-in info prior to our arrival. The GPS routed us to the rear of the property, which was where the street sign appeared to be located. Only by driving over the train tracks toward the river and doubling back were we able to see the front of the house/house number as shown in the listing. And it is very, very close to the train tracks! My husband and I slept in the bedroom in the front of the house, and the freight train woke us several times per night. The train was also loud enough to wake our daughter in the rear bedroom despite her sound machine being on at a high volume. But for us, the benefits of the home outweighed the inconvenience of the train noise. The house was recently updated, clean and the fenced in yard was great for our pup to run and play. The small town of Meadow Creek gave us a real feel for the area, as well as it's history, as several historical buildings in town are still standing despite no longer being used. We were so close to the N.R.G.N.P. Sandstone Falls visitor center, and having lodging within the Park allowed us to maximize the little time we had there! Thank you for having us!

New River House
There is lots of nature to enjoy at this house. it’s a great house to bring your family including the dogs. The train is really close but that was part of the charm for us. Keep in mind it is loud and it does roll by quite a few times a day.

Web information very deceiving.
First of all the train is not infrequent. Two to three times during the day and at least 6 overnight. River is not in the front yard past the tracks, its down a gravel road and can barely be seen from the front porch. Floor was sticky throughout the house. Smoke alarms were found in a drawer and not mounted on the ceiling. The ceiling looks like it needs a repaint as it is chipping and paint falling down.We realize this is a very old house but it needs a lot of work to be a quality VRBO. Sorry but thats our feelings. The scenery though is beautiful and we loved West Virginia!

Inaccurate information about the property but the house was decent
We got there later in the evening and there was no heat on on the house. It was below freezing outside. The propane heat line was turned off and there were no directions on how to turn that on. (There were heating directions but it assumed the propane line was turned on). Once we figured out the heating it was fine and the house stayed warm. The listing pictures made it look like the river was in the back yard. You had to cross the railroad tracks and walk down the road to a public access (you can see the river from the front porch). I still couldn’t figure out where the one yard/river picture was taken from. When I messaged and asked if river was in the back yard and if we could fish from there, she did not answer the first question and only responded about the fishing. The listing also stated about watching “what few trains still go by.” At night, a minimum of 6 trains would go past between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am. Because we were at a railroad crossing, the crossing would ding and the train would blow its horn every time. Even with a noise machine on, we were woken up several times a night by the train. I wish the listing would have been more honest so we knew what we were getting into. Overall, the house itself was quite nice and provided us with information about what to explore in the area. Many things were updated but other things were not (the handle to the dryer was missing and you needed a small finger or something to pry the door open). If you are a train enthusiast, this is the house for you. Our children absolutely loved watching all of the trains go by each day.
