About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Charming traditional villa in Salento, Puglia, Italy, surrounded by vineyards.
Villa Sirgole, a family house, opens to international guests, families with children and special people. Its inspiring atmosphere is perfect for writers, artists, musicians.
From here you will be introduced to the century-old culture of Salento, in the South-East of Italy. It has been the gateway to Europe for thousands of years.
Villa Sirgole - Liberty Place in Salento - is a family holiday villa built by our great-grandfather in 1897.
Its moresque style was fashionable at the turn of the century, with many fantastic variations seen in other beautiful holiday villas in nearby Nardò and Santa Maria di Leuca. "Liberty" is the Italian variation of the "Floral Style" or "Art nouveau" architecture, fashionable in "Modernist" Barcelona and "Art nouveau" Paris during the years 1890 - 1910.
Villa Sirgole - 1897 features a square perimeter above ground-level, with three spacious and high-vaulted bed-rooms, plus a large kitchen with fireplace.
A staircase at the entrance leads to a central living-room with an ornate mosaic floor and a grand piano, while the dining-room opens up towards a closeted garden, with orange / lemon / mandarine evergreen trees.
"Il Giardino degli aranci" leads to a vaulted green room, a real meditation room in open space, with view of century-old vineyards.
The house offers modern comfort at any season. It is fresh in the summer and pleasantly warm in the middle seasons. It has heating in every room for the winter months.
Salento offers 317 days of sunshine every year.
Its castles, palaces, traditional villages present a variety of cultural riches, cumulated through the centuries. It was the gateway between Europe and the Mediterranean for centuries. You will be surprised!
You will be able to explore:
- Pre-historic neolithic art such as in the Grotta Zinzulusa and the Grotta Romanelli, where our aunt discovered neolithic artefacts in the '50s.
- The remnants of Messapia ("Mess-apia" in Greek - land between the seas) of the Bronze Ages
- Villages where old Greek is still spoken today
- Illyric / Albanian villages, where Albanian music is revived today; see "Skanderband"
- Salento was the path the Templars and the Crusaders
- Find the early Medieval Castles of the Anjevin:
- or those of Alfonso, King of Aragon, who married Lucrezia Borgia
- then the Castle of Lecce, by Charles the V of Spain, who ordered construction of the most perfect castle, the Castle of Lecce
or admire the towers he ordered to be built along the whole coast of Salento, allowing light signals to defend the territory against the Moors (still called the "Turks") along 250 kilometers of the Salento coastline.
Recently the Jewish history of Salento has been uncovered and a new museum has opened its doors.
Lecce, with its light, its aristocratic, baroque, limestone XVIIIth century buildings, is an amazing city. And it is close to Villa Sirgole - 1897. It is now famous for its elegance and special lifestyle

Villa Sirgole is amazing! I've stayed here on several occasions, the last time to shoot a short film! It's a magical place, the colors, the orange grove, the view from the roof... and the most beautiful light I've maybe ever seen in a private home. I would come back here again and again. Isabella and her wholeness family are so kind and hospitable. 100% would recommend.

I have been to Salento many times and always admired those beautiful 'liberty' villas that one can see there so I felt spoiled when Airbnb and Isabella allowed me to make a dream of mine real. Isabella's house is a stunning, beautiful old house in a beautiful Salento setting that I would highly recommend. As much I was attracted by the beautiful photos in the house profile, I was also wary of the lack of reviews. I am actually glad I decided to go anyway and very happy of providing the first review (of many, I am sure) for this house. The villa is surrounded by a beautiful garden that, even if slightly run down compared to the photos, is fantastic, featuring a small alley covered by mandarin trees, a side row of Kiwi trees, bushes of deliciously smelling wild mint and flowers everywhere. The villa is beautifully decorated with red, blue, green wall paint alternating in giving the bedrooms, distributed symmetrically to each side of the house a character of its own. The central living room and sitting room (with a great grand piano) are very beautiful, separated by a charming glass door. When opening all the windows, the villa is inundated with the beautiful Salento light (be careful of mosquitoes, against which however Isabella thoughtfully left some repellent for us). I will be back, if only to enjoy my favorite room: the Blue one that I had to give up to some older family members :) Grazie Isabella (and the very reachable guardian Rina)
