Mallaig makes a wonderful holiday base and is just a short walk to the family friendly sandy beach in the picturesque village of Rockcliffe. The cottage has a private setting with large patio doors running the full width of the sitting room, a spacious garden and large decking all of which provide wonderful panoramic views to the coast.
The property is warm and cosy being fully double glazed with electric heating and a wood burning stove. The spacious fully fitted kitchen has all you need for the odd night that you are dining in, which may be every night to be able to enjoy the views from the deck!
Enjoying a considerable degree of seclusion, yet only five minutes' walk from the beach, this is the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Located in one of the most popular villages in the area where, apart from the lovely family friendly beach, there is a superb National Trust walking trail to the nearby village of Kippford which is the sailing centre for the area and where you can sample local ales or fresh seafood on the waterfront at two excellent pubs, or during the daytime enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea by the sea at the Ark Café and gift shop.
Rockcliffe shore and its sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding or rock pooling. There is always an ice cream van parked by the shore and the village café serves afternoon tea in the garden.
Enjoy walks from the door of the cottage through countryside, woods, and wildflower meadows, follow the coastal footpath to secret smugglers' coves with wonderful views over the Solway to the Lake District, or at low tide, walk over to explore Rough Island – a National Trust Bird Sanctuary.
There are several nearby golf courses (including the 9 hole course at Kippford, 18 hole course at Colvend and the championship links course at Southerness) and plenty of opportunities for sea, game and coarse fishing. For keen cyclists there are plenty of road and off-road routes, including the Dalbeattie 7 Stanes Mountain Bike trails which can be accessed via mountain bike only 1.5 miles away.
Nearby, Colvend has a general store and tearoom, whilst more extensive facilities can be found in nearby Dalbeattie.
