Beautiful Secluded Lake Front Retreat | 100 yr old Log Lodge | Dog-Kid Friendly

Welcome to Briar Lake Lodge, a charming rustic log cabin built in 1923, nestled on a serene and secluded trout lake. Located about 30 minutes from downtown Duluth, the lodge offers a variety of activities year-round, both on-site and nearby. Enjoy fishing, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, four-wheeling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Please note that large gatherings require prior approval.

Accommodating up to 16 guests, the lodge features a master king bedroom, two main floor bedrooms with queen beds, two loft bedrooms with 2 queen beds in each, and a hide-a-bed couch. At the heart of the lodge is a spacious grand living room with a stunning stone fireplace.

For warmer days, air conditioning is available in the lofts. Guests can take advantage of the dock, which comes equipped with kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for exploring the lake.
Additionally, a large patio and fire pit are perfect for family barbecues.

This property embodies the essence of a Northwoods Lake Cabin getaway. It is one of our favorite places to be, and we hope it becomes one of yours too!

Beautiful cabin
This was a perfect place for a group of friends to meet for a girls weekend. The cabin was lovely with a good location and very cozy in the deep winter.

Great winter getaway
Perfect for a group of friends with kids. The large fireplace was a big draw for us and it did not disappoint (though be sure to bring plenty of firewood to keep the flame going). We enjoyed playing in the snow with the kids out on the frozen lake and even found some nice Superior Hiking Trail hikes nearby, which were wonderful in the snow. Would absolutely stay again.

Nice rustic beach house
I booked this place because i had family coming over from other state that wants to experience winter here in cold Minnesota. They were very pleased with the place. They wanted to experience walking on a frozen lake and they got to experience that. The lodge has a good space for everyone. The only thing negative was that the loft/attic room was very cold because we did not use the portable heater that was provided.. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in this place and we would like to see it again in the summer.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful location.
A beautiful cabin in an incredibly beautiful location. The house was spacious, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved all of the reading spots throughout the house and the seating area around the bonfire pit was great! Unfortunately the burner on the grill was rotted out and grill didn’t have enough propane for a single use. Also, the sauna only got up to 120 degrees after taking about 2 hours to heat up, which was a bummer, as we were really looking forward to using it.

With four family and 4 little ones 0-3yo. It was the perfect size for our group. We enjoyed the long dinner table inside and long picnic table outside the comfortably fit all 12 of us. The location was quite and the yards was perfect for the toddler to run around in. The main room was perfect a spot for all the adult to sit and the kids to play with toys. We enjoyed the feature of the doors locking in the main room to help keep the crawlers in one location. It was very infant friendly in the aspect of no stairs, just ladders to the lofts. We had a wonderful time it will definitely be a core memory for our friend group.

Great place to disconnect
The lodge was a great place to disconnect from the hustle and loudness of life around us. While the wifi works well, it was nice to not be constantly looking at emails or taking phone calls, the ability to disconnect was great. Fishing at Briar Lake was slow but enjoyable.

This place was awesome! Beautiful & perfect for our small casual wedding reception & family stay! The only thing I could recommend to the owners is to provide some hand lotion in the bathroom & kitchens. We did use the oven to warm up some food & found an issue due to someone leaving a broiler pan full of grease in the bottom causing a smoke issue but were able to resolve it with removing the pan & using fans & and windows to clear the smoke. We did clean the pan & the dirty dishes that were left in the dishwasher. Other than that everything went very smoothly & we would not hesitate to stay here again in the future!

Great getaway
Great place to get away from the city. The cabin is beautiful and spacious. We spent 80% of the time outside because it was so well kept that the fireplace was perfect and a great little field for corn hole. My group had a great time relaxing and having actual conversations instead of just looking at a screen.

What a wonderfully relaxing lakeside oasis! Everything was as advertised. Best aspects were un-ending amounts of firewood for the interior fireplace and outdoor fire pit. The sauna, dock and multiple sleeping accommodations (7 separate beds). Only feedback is that they need to replace the oven hot mitts and gas grill (no bottom to collect the grease). Otherwise the group of us would gladly return here again! Cheers 🍻

Fantastic escape from busy life
This was the perfect place to get away from hectic life of the cities. More than enough space for everyone, as well as spacious room for the dogs to roam. Was out of the inner city enough to receive peace and tranquility, but close enough to run into town to tour canal park and other tourist attractions. I will recommend this place to family and friends.

Family Christmas Gathering
Our party of 7 adults and 7 kids gathered to celebrate Christmas together, and this cabin was perfect for our needs. The three bedrooms on the main floor are beautiful! Two lofts with two full beds each are great for kids, but the stair/ladders are pretty steep for children who are afraid of heights. Luckily ours got over their fears quickly and were able to sleep up there just fine. *Beds were ok, but bring your own pillows if you are used to big fluffy ones. Large table overlooking the lake is connected to the livingroom area with a fireplace. Very warm and cozy, and we were able to all eat together for meals! The kitchen is small and lacks counterspace for meal prep, but the side breakfast nook with the large buffet/countertop worked well for spreading out our buffet style meals. Host/house manager responded immediately when we called with a question. Very accommodating and friendly! Highly recommend this place for large group gatherings.

Fun family weekend get-away!
Although there was a problem with the main heating source, we were plenty comfortable (even a little too warm) as there were multiple portable heaters scattered through the house and the fire place was going when we arrived. I was a bit nervous with all the heaters with our newly walking granddaughter, but she knew they were “hot” so she stayed clear of them. We had some issues with lights not working in the front porch, but management was quick to get back to us guiding us to some extra lighting. The house was beautifully decorated for the holidays which made our weekend even more special! The lodge is rustic and noise carries easily through the house, but we loved the rustic atmosphere. My only complaint was from some rude neighbors across the bay making negative comments about “VRBO guests” and screaming obscenities at someone’s barking dog.

This was our first whole family trip. It definitely exceeded my expectations. The cabin is in a perfect location, secluded but close enough to get to a store if needed. There was plenty of space for our dog to run around and the house was big enough that it didn't feel as if we were all on top of one another.
