River's Bend Cabin Offers Solitude and Play on the Upper James River

Escape to River’s Bend Cabin nestled on the bluff over the Upper James River! Admire the sunrise over the mountain from the screened-in porch or just sleep in and have a picnic at the river beach later. You will have access to kayaks and canoes and are welcome to bring your own paddle boats, fishing gear or mountain bikes (no ATVs or motorized vehicles). There are ample walking trails where you will likely spot deer, turkeys, otters, geese and even an eagle occasionally. Explore wetlands, forests and cornfields or curl up with a good book while you let the kids feed the chickens. We are blessed with beautiful views and dark skies in a peaceful paradise and welcome the chance to share with you.
River’s Bend is located near Eagle Rock which allows central access to recreational areas, vineyards and historic sites in Buchanan, Roanoke, Lexington, Covington and Alleghany County. Ask us about touring an historic Kanawha Canal lock on adjacent private farmland. We can arrange a private fly fishing lesson, river trip or even mountain bike rides through northern Botetourt county.
There are three bedrooms and two baths that can comfortably accommodate six (6) guests. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, Bedroom 2 has a king bed (separated into twins at your request) and Bedroom 3 has a queen bed; air mattresses are also available. The kitchen is fully equipped. An open concept design features a fireplace (gas logs) with stone chimney visible from the kitchen, dining and living rooms. There is a game room in the loft equipped with pool table, ping pong table, board games and more. The back deck has a gas grill and ample seating areas overlooking the James River.

Perfect cabin in the woods
This was probably the best rental home we have ever stayed at. The home itself is beautifully laid out with all the comforts for a perfect family getaway. We loved roaming around the property and taking in beautiful Mountain View’s from the front porch. Our kids loved catching fireflies at night on the back deck while my wife and I watched the sunset behind the mountains. Location was perfect, secluded enough to enjoy the sounds of nature and solitude but close enough to town to get essentials. The host went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. She let my daughters ride her tractor and brush hog, my 8 year old said it was the best part of the trip. The house has kayaks, plenty of indoor games, outdoor games, etc… to make sure everyone is entertained. We finished every night with a family game. We will be coming back soon, very impressed with everything.

This is such a great place for when you want to get away but still be relatively close to local attractions. Our group consisted of myself, my brother, his wife, their 2 daughters, a boyfriend and a friend. We came for the VA Safari Park, the Natural Bridge, caverns, and kayaking. I brought my nieces here 2 years ago and we had such a great time, they wanted to come again! Everyone enjoyed their stay. The cabin is beautiful and very clean! Beth, the host, is very welcoming and responsive if you have any questions. Highly recommend!

Wonderful getaway
We stayed for 4 days and had a wonderful and relaxed time. The location was peaceful, the cabin was beautiful and the overall experience was excellent. The host is wonderful and very quick to respond to questions. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch at dark watching the fireflies. It was a perfect relaxing getaway. Great place, great location, great hosts
A group of retired couples stayed at River's Bend for New Year's weekend. We never left the place and had a fantastic time. Kitchen was well stocked, game room offered ping pong and pool, hiking right from property. The owner even took the trouble of getting 3 kayaks out of winter storage so that we could kayak on an unusually warm New Year's eve day! She was fantastic :)

The property was amazing and we had a great time. Exploring the trails by the river was so much fun. We saw 3 bears during our stay, turkeys, fish, and hundreds of other animals at the animal Safari nearby. The peaceful starry nights were spectacular, especially to watch the meteor showers. Perfect secluded getaway!
This was our first family vacation where we made no plans or itinerary, and it was the best decision. The property has everything you need to just relax and explore. We hiked the land, discovered cool trees and rare birds, we took canoe trips on the river, we swam in the calm and clean river every day, we played games in the gameroom at night, and relaxed on both porches. Beth was so friendly, accomodating, and just an overall perfect host. The cabin was spotless, open and extremely comfortable. We were not ready to leave and will definitely be back next year! Lovely Cabin in the Woods
There really aren't words to explain the loveliness of this location. The cabin is comfortable and welcoming and offers something for everyone. The screened-in porch is perfect for watching wildlife, lightning bugs, and summer storms. The living room is comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped for cooking, and the beds and bedding top rate. The ping pong and pool tables were a hit as well as the games and puzzles provided. Beth was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed, including kayaks waiting for us at the water's edge. Serenity!
This property is an absolute Gem! The Cabin is beautiful and had plenty of space. We had 3 adults and 4 dogs, yes 4 dogs. They enjoyed roaming the property and sprinting down to the river for a swim. We only left the property once for a bite and found multiple dog friendly restaurants! Beth was truly amazing, greeted us when we got there and gave us some tips and recommendations on things to do! Plus! On our way out we were stopped by a large tree branch covering the road. I gave Beth a call and she had that thing removed in no time! She is way more than a host and I’m truly impressed. We will be returning to this property in the future!

This place is fantastic! My friends and I came here this weekend for a fishing trip and we were blown away by the property. The house itself was beautiful and incredibly well kept, and the property itself was amazing! We fished a small swath of the upper James and had a very productive weekend. Beth was incredibly kind, present, and accommodating. She was on top of what we needed and was a cut above! Tip: be on the back porch during a summer night; the fireflies are a thing of beauty!

Great Mountain Getaway
This stay was just what we needed. A beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting. It was a bit off the beaten path which is just what we wanted. After a full day of exploring the area and going to Natural Bridge, the Virginia Safari Park, and Douthat State Park we got to return to the cabin to relax and recharge. We loved spending the night sitting on the rockers on the front porch and watching the lightning bugs light up over the corn field. We look forward to visiting again.

This place was absolutely stunning. We were able to relax on the screened in front porch or the deck that overlooked the river. The weather wasn't the best when we went but, the game room helped keep us entertained. The host was so good to us, too! She was very attentive and responsive. We enjoyed our stay so much. The location above the James River was perfect. Remote and quiet we couldn't have asked for anything more to relax. However, if you want activity, there is plenty to do on the river, kayak, fish, canoe. Rivers Bend cabin is the perfect getaway in beautiful setting in a beautiful spacious cabin.

It was a quick getaway but we totally had fun! Elizabeth was a great host. She showed us the lay of the land when we checked in and was available to answer questions. The cabin was very modern, beds were super comfortable, all amenities you can think of were there. The only thing I wish the cabin had was access to the river from the backyard. All in all, it was a great couple of days and we enjoyed the cabin and the surrounding land. We will definitely come back.
