Very helpful staff
Very helpful staff and large bed in the room, which was very quiet being at the back. Decor starting to look a bit tired in places but the rooms were very clean. I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice building and room. Heater in the room was very noisy and clicked all night until we had to switch it off. Breakfast was very good but the breakfast room was very cold

This hotel is very tired and the rooms are grubby looking. Pillows are like bricks, never know anything like it - no idea how they have managed to find such uncomfortable ones so barely slept. Glad I was only there for one night

Adequate, but it could be so much better.
We stayed at the hotel to attend an evening wedding reception. The hotel is a little tired. The room was comfortable enough, but everything felt a little outdated and didn't feel fresh and clean. The public areas were well presented and the hotel was quite cozy. The breakfast was disappointing. The bacon was very undercooked and covered with white residue and very fatty. It looked unappetising and tastes even worse than it looked. It was quite busy at breakfast and there wasn't adequate supplies of things like hash browns, eggs and beans. This meant that people were standing around waiting for the dishes to be re-stocked, which blocked other areas were food could be accessed. My wife, who has a gluten intolerance wasn't able to eat much, due the sausages containing wheat. Most good quality sausages don't contain wheat, but the cheaper ones do and again, these were undercooked. This was my second stay at this hotel, the first was more than 20 years ago when it was still fresh. It could be a great hotel, but it needs managing well. It seemed understaffed and waiting times at the bar were unacceptable. This was due to understaffing.

Nice friendly hotel to stay in
We had a late, easy and friendly check in , all was good no problems ,nice comfy night in the room . plenty of choice for breakfast in the morning , nice well cooked english , all the staff where polite and courteous , had to book the mercure at the last moment and worked out great ! This is a nice hotel to stay and will do so again , no complaints

The staff were really friendly. Had a welcome pack for my young daughters. Late check out of 11am. Breakfast really well stocked. Additional £10 for 4 of us to have breakfast when we booked through Expedia. Pool was good and we could still use this after check out. Very quiet pool, has it to ourselves most the time. Fire alarm dis go off 5 times in 30 mins during the night, clearly a fault as it was switched off as soon as it went off. Not really something that can be helped so I don't have an issue with it. Room was really spacious, bed was comfy, bathroom very dated but this didn't bother us for the price we paid. I gave it 4 stars because it is a dated hotel however everything else was good. Friendly staff is always important and they were lovely and welcoming.
