Accommodation In Easter Island

Sure, Europe is grand, and Fiji is beautiful—but if you really want to impress your in-laws or make all your friends jealous, you need Easter Island accommodation! This atoll off the coast of Chile is one of the most remote in the world, but it’s the world-famous moai statues in Rapa Nui National Park that really give it the edge for adventurous travellers.

Things to Do on Easter Island

The moai statues are always the main event on Easter Island holidays —so “head” on over! From the 10th to 16th centuries, the people of the island built nearly a thousand of these head-and-torso carvings. Ahu Tongariki on the island’s east side has 15 of them; go at sunrise when the light shines through the statues, giving you the perfect photo op.

Just 1 km west of Tongariki is Rano Raraku, the volcanic crater where most of the stone for the statues was mined. They dot the landscape like a moai graveyard, toppled over, unfinished and half-buried in the earth. It’s a key historic site, but even more importantly, it’s just plain eerie.

Getting To & Around Easter Island

Hotels on Easter Island are certainly remote, but are also easy to get to thanks to Mataveri International Airport (IPC) in Easter Island’s main town, Hanga Roa. Look into our Chile accommodation and plan on a layover in Santiago. After you check out its famous cathedrals and hot springs, it’s just a 5-hour flight to Hanga Roa. Taxis are cheap for trips within town (you’ve gotta see the ballet), but you’ll want to sign up for a tour or book one of Wotif’s car hire options to see the moai sites.

Make sure your next holiday is set in stone. Book Easter Island hotels on Wotif, where you’ll find the best deals around. All that’s left to do is prepare your friends for the rush of awesome photos on social media!
