Indifferent Accommodation.
Location excellent. However, it was apparent to us, and others, that because that is clearly the USP, the quality of the rooms, the general decor and level of cleanliness were of a barely acceptable standard. Staff appeared to be generally disengaged, particularly in the dining room, where two we asked for service clearly didn't understand basic English. The food offering was very poor with little choice (e.g. the toast accompaniment was strawberry jam, nothing else) and even less supervisory oversight. Indeed, the so-called restaurant manager was the scruffiest and most disinterested individual imaginable. We'll visit the city again but would not consider the Old Waverley Hotel as there is better value to be had at the same price point.

Expensive, but very run-down
This hotel is very expensive for what you get, even allowing for the sky-high prices that prevail in Edinburgh. The Old Waverley is tired and run-down and badly needs a complete renovation. The carpets and furniture are worn and cheap, the corridors are narrow and dingy. Our window had black mold. The elevator is tiny and does not go down to street level. The lobby is on the second level and can only be accessed by a small corridor from the street and then up a set of stairs. So people with heavy luggage or mobility issues should beware. On the plus side, the location is great and our room had a good view of the old city. Our room and bed were comfortable enough and the toilet worked, but water temperatures in the shower fluctuated. We were there in cool weather, and were comfortable enough with the window open overnight, but with no air conditioning, I would not want to be at the Old Waverley in hot weather.

The place is for the hotel is very good but the reception not not that good and the hotel is very dirty. They don’t technically clean very well. I don’t know how it’s four or three star I will give it to one star

Good Location
Nice location near Waverley Station. Stairs to the check-in made it a bit cumbersome, but there was a porter bell to help with bags. Our mattress was a bit on the saggy side, but it was comfortable enough. I'd stay there again.

Nice size rooms. When my dad needed an extension cord for a CPAP machine the staff was helpful. Great location. Only issue was check in and getting luggage out of our shuttle. Very busy street and we had suitcases as well as golf clubs. Staff directed us around the back which was not correct. I knew about the stairs to lobby going into it, but it was not what I imagined. You enter, go down a narrow hallway, then up narrow stairs to lobby. This is not a great place for people To stay if they have a lot of luggage or heavy luggage. Other than that I would recommend.

There was not much I liked. Didn't realize there were stairs from the entrance to the lobby. As a senior, this was not a mobility-friendly hotel. Beds were comfortable but we did not feel secure having to open a window. Our view was of macjinery, mold and bird droppings. I would not recommend this hotel.

Loved the sea-view room, and the bed and chairs were very comfortable. What the Expedia listing does not say and their own website does is that there is live music every weekend, which can be loud enough even on the 2nd floor of rooms that sleeping might be difficult. Also, the parking area has only six spots for the 12 rooms at the hotel, so it’s not guaranteed that you would be able to park in their car park (5 pounds/day charge).

Beautiful hotel, our room had two gorgeous sash windows with a great view of Edinburgh Castle. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and an amazing breakfast after a good night's sleep in a really comfortable bed. Powerful shower with plenty of hot water. The location was perfect with everything we wanted to see within easy walking distance. Highly recommended!
