There are no words sufficient to express the degree to which we loved our stay at the Scott Hotel in Edinburgh. The staff are the nicest, warmest, most friendly people imaginable, and all catered to our smallest - and largest -requests! They moved serving tables to accommodate us and our friends for a supper in their cozy Velvet Lounge, and served the meals from their adjacent Brasserie restaurant, and all with smiles and bonhomie. We felt, not like guests, but lords of the manor! A marvellous p, comfortable and most enjoyable visit.
Overall it was a reasonably pleasant stay. I was not aware - and surprised given the price of the room - that it is not a full service hotel and I'm also surprised that hotels.com does not make this apparent. Some of the staff were lovely, however it was entirely inconsistent (bloke running the bar seemed to be unaware what blended whisky was and whether they had it. Minor point, but odd for a tourist venue in the capital of scotland.) Also, EXTREMELY rude experience from bloke on reception on trying to get a pot of tea from non existent room service. They did make an effort when we complained but it was more 'very sorry for your experience' than 'bloody hell our receptionist said what to you, that's thoroughly unacceptable and here's what we're going to do about it.' Which might, of course, be ok for some people - as might the rudemess. Make your own choice. Only other comment is the quite bizarre decor - it looks like five designers each came up with some ideas and they all got to do what they wanted at once. It didnt detract from our stay, but if you're looking for peaceful - or stylish - 'flow' I'm not sure this is it.
The hotel looks stunning, bus stop outside that takes you in the city centre in 10 minutes.
Lovely setting plenty of alternative car parks in the ground, might be awkward parking when the University is open.
Right by Arthurs Seat which is a must to do for fantastic views over the city.
Very clean room with large bathroom but no bath tub. The room temperature could be on the low side in the winter. But overall very nicely decorated room and nice amenities. Toiletries came in big bottle rather than small plastic bottles. The room size is spacious and fittings are of high quality. Nice breakfast at the dining room. Only two issues we have with the hotel. One is limited parking spaces nearby, sometimes we have to park further away. Secondly the hotel is without lift and could be problematic with luggages though the hotel will get porter to help with carrying the luggage up and down.
Very enjoyable stay lovely hotel , however the 1st morning breakfast was cold on cold plates ,2nd day was much better . The alacarte menu was very ltd choice and also had to ask the waitress if our Main Courses The Monk Fish was meant to be cold as the little white turnips were completely cold and the Monkfish was not even Luke warm. She apoligised and took back to get heated through.once this was done it was ok but by that time we were so disappointed . Then I asked if they made liqueur coffees don’t think she had heard of this. Anyway the answer was no. I should have asked for a coffee and a Liqueur on the side ,but took one of the sweets instead . A bit disappointed because of these hiccups but overall we thought it was a beautiful hotel .
Amazing independent hotel in central Edinburgh. Really good staff. Welcoming, helpful, efficient. Room was spacious , luxurious and comfortable. Great mattress . Had a lovely quiet sleep. Breakfast excellent. Great choice and quality.
Beware the electric car chargers. The Tesla one is Tesla only ( unlike most of their Superchargers) and the ChargePlace Scotland ones wouldn’t work from the app. Had to ring ( great customer service) but as couldn’t monitor it on the app, got stung with a £30 overstay charge for staying 15 minutes longer than allowed, which I understand is not from the charger supplier but from Edinburgh council!
Nothing to do with The Scott Hotel, who could not have been more hospitable, however. Just be aware and maybe don’t use the EV charger if you have any option.
Nice rooms, very friendly & helpful staff. Room cleaned each day with clean towels. Bed very comfy. Breakfast decent although quality varied from day to day.
Couple of niggles: our room was quite cold (it was 0 degrees outside but the old windows struggled). There is no lift too, so bare that in mind but staff did help get one of our two bags upstairs.
Restaurant extremely good, well recommended especially for the price.
