We found the cabin to be brand new, with everything from towels to soaps to coffee thoughtfully placed and designed. The cabin was simple to make us feel we were returning to the "simple happy life," but actually equipped with modern conveniences from AC to an electric fireplace to cable. Our family really used this as an opportunity for bonding time. Kids favorite part was the cool loft (of course) where they read books. Adults favorite part was the porch. We honestly planned to do more hiking elsewhere but found ourselves opting for staring at the river, watching birds and walking out during low tide. Seriously, this is the perfect place to eat breakfast at gazing at the clear Watauga River. The stay was so peaceful and comfortable that we stayed an extra day. (Do make sure you have the Wilbur Dam time schedule: most likely 3-9pm is not safe for kids and even adults unless on a boat with life jackets. Just as a heads up, the entrance to this property has industrial buildings, but once you drive back you are resting straight on the river and it was incredibly peaceful. Kids loved it all! The host was super considerate, and even met us at the front to make sure we found our way in ok and checked in with us to see if we needed towels or anything else.
