This hotel was “the place to stay” when the Landmark was built approximately 40 years ago. The hotel has “good bones” but is in need of some simple repairs, upkeep and updating. We booked this room for our parents (kind of last minute and they didn’t want something “fancy”) but we all feel the hotel could use some basic work to be a great place again. Our parents did compliment how comfortable the bed was, the room itself was simple and clean. The staff was decent towards the clientele but they need to come up with a “better system” for checking out. Upon checking out, the one staff member working the front has to go “check” your room to ensure you can receive your $50 deposit back. This process adds 20ish minutes to a process that should only take a 3-5 minutes. Let the client check out, you have their card info on file and if you find a problem then don’t give the deposit back. If there’s an issue (damage, missing items, smoking in non-smoking rooms) then don’t refund it. If the room is clean, no issues, then release the deposit back to the client by the end of the day so it will be back on their card by the following morning. Overall; decent hotel, needs updating and repairs, decent staff and within minutes of historic downtown Hartsville.

I had my dog with me. When I checked in I asked what the refunding deposit was for having a dog with me. I was alone and the rate was based on double occupancy. I was told $25.00. Next morning at check out I ask the clerk to check my room for damage so I could get my $25 fee back. At that time I was informed the pet charge is $25 and not refundable. The policy was not explained. First time I have encountered a across the board pet fee.

Bare bones hotel
Upon arrival, it was clear this was an older hotel. We should have known by the lack of cars in the parking lot that we picked the wrong hotel. The African American lady at the front desk was very nice and friendly. The room was average, nothing fancy. It was a little dingy and there was a little bit of what appeared to be some mildew around the shower head. The beds were okay, no bed bugs, but the mattresses had no bounce at all. The pool was right outside our room, but had a layer of yuck across the top of the water so we didn't get in. The continental breakfast left much to be desired. There was barely anything to eat. The juice machine was out of order and no water was provided. They did have coffee, but I threw mine out. The Belgian waffle was good. I guess you get what you pay for. We were only here one night to attend an event in town. When we were about to check out, I nearly tripped on a water hose that was draped across the sidewalk leading to the front desk.

I really loved the location. The beds were very comfy, lots of TV programs, clean! Lots of comfy pillows. Black out curtains. The negatives were: slower shower drain, extremely outdated sinks, paints, etc showed lack of repair with grout coming out, and other minor things. All the surrounding accomodations provided free breakfast. When checking in there were added charges posted at the desk which were not mentioned online. Fees was all it said. So...I paid about as much as I would have for an updated name brand place to sleep minus breakfast. The pool was definitely in need of cleaning. Landscaping and lobby were boring and not used well. But overall... I woukd stay here again.

Nice Weekend Stay
The hotel is older, but kept clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. Very close to the dragway, which was nice since we were there racing for the weekend. Found out that a lot of racers stay there. They made us room to park the hauler after the last night of racing, which other local hotels told us we couldn't do, that is how we ended up here. Enjoyed our stay and plan on staying again next time we're in the area!
