With its glistening white cone visible from ReykjavĆk on a clear day, SnƦfellsjƶkull is the most potent and enduring symbol of SnƦfellsnes. If the glacier weren't there, however, the manifold wonders of SnƦfellsnes would stand out just the same. SnƦfellsjƶkull, (1,446 m) an ancient cone volcano, one of finest mountains in Iceland. An impressive sight from as far away as ReykjavĆk, from where it can be seen in clear weather, seeming to rise from the sea. Many prehistoric eruptions took place in the glacier-covered crater at its peak, and its slopes are covered with lava.
