Beautiful Cornish cottage located at the Head of the Helford River, Wi Fi, Alexa

Situated just yards from the river Helford, this quaint period detached cottage is tucked away in a quiet backwater, but only a short walk to the local shop, the Black Swan Inn, Gweek Seal Sanctuary and Gweek Quay which has a slipway should you wish to launch your boat or kayak. The Quay also has a lovely cafe with outside seating overlooking the water. Best visited at High tide. All areas of the Old Mill house are beautifully furnished with period furniture and it has three lovely bedrooms; one King size, one double and one small double.
First floor bathroom with bath and w.c. and a full shower room on the ground floor also with w.c.
Generous Lounge with wood burner and two 3 seater sofas.
Dinning room with beamed ceiling.
Large kitchen with snug area with wood burner, coffee-maker, dishwasher and washing machine. Alexa also resides in the kitchen!!
Conservatory which is ideal for muddy boots, wet clothes, wetsuits and surf boards.
Small rear garden overlooking rolling country side. A sun-trap patio area with garden furniture, perfect for alfresco dining! Petite front garden bordering the quiet lane. Free Wi Fi.
At the side of the property a 5 bar gate leads you to a generous parking area.
Gweek is a delightful and friendly rural village and is an excellent base from which to explore the Lizard and it's beautiful coastline. The stunning Kynance Cove is just a short drive away. Frenchman's Creek and Helford are a short kayak away! Wednesday night fish and chips (from the mobile van) on the village green make a wonderful and sociable mid-week supper.

A real gem
Enjoyed a week at The Old Mill Cottage and it provided all we needed. A thoughfully put together welcome food selection, very comfortable beds, spacious and characterful rooms. Suzanne was easy to communicate with and very helpful when it came to recharging our electric car overnight. A lovely location with village shop and pub within walking distance so pretty much perfect. Looking forward to returning to Cornwall as we love it.

The only issue was parking; there’s ample room for two cars but getting in and out was tight, required reverse parking, and the entrance lane is very narrow, in poor condition and extremely steep. Otherwise, we loved the house in every way; a true home from home with everything you could require. It was warm, spacious, quaint, quiet, and the beds were very comfortable. My two daughters, two grandsons and I loved it. We cooked all our meals together and everything we needed was there; I can’t fault it in anyway. The local shop is fantastic, and was open everyday over Easter. There’s a village pub and cafe too, all within a minute’s walk, and my grandsons loved the boatyard! We would definitely go back.

Lovely tucked-away village
Nice to see that some of Cornwall is still off the beaten path. Tranquil tidal river, quiet and peaceful. The cottage was very comfortable and spacious. Close to great walking along the south west coastal path.

Cornwall holiday on The Lizard
Blown Away. A stunning cottage in a gorgeous quiet little village. 2 minute walk to the local shop, and the pub, whose meals were lovely and reasonably priced. Perfectly located for travel to the local beach at Poldhu Cove and local town of Helston. Didn't want to leave, could have stayed forever. Thankyou. I'm sure we'll be returning in the future.

Charming cosy cottage perfect location
We stayed in the cottage for 9 nights as a family holiday and the cottage exceeded our expectations. It's really thoughtfully decorated and furnished and the layout cosy and interesting. Lovely welcome pack upon arrival and all the basics you'd need. Nice double beds with decent linen. Comfy sofas in the cosily lit sitting room too. The setting was amongst rooftops in the quiet and very green creek of Gweek. Gweek is pretty itself with a nice cafe in the marina and trendy village store, but it's also the perfect place to explore so many amazing parts of Cornwall from, with Porthcurno, Mousehole, Marazion, St Ives, Helford River, Lizard, Falmouth/St Mawes and Watergate Bay/Treyarnon etc all realistic half or full day trips. Oh and yes getting into the drive does take some thinking, but you soon get used to it. We fully intend to return, a great cottage in a great location.

A gem of a location. Quiet and off the beaten path. Beautiful surroundings and well appointed. Very homey. Within easy driving to several scenic locations. The locals are friendly and charming.

gweek getaway hideaway
The cottage is tastefully furnished - a blend of modern comfort and attractive antiques. The location was very quiet but in walking distance of the village pub, shop and centre of the village, and Gweek is well located to Falmouth, Helford river attractions, Helford, the Lizard and Penzance. We love little lanes so enjoyed mooching about locally but W Cornwall doesn't enjoy the best roads- which keeps it as it is.

Hidden gem in Gweek. Of fibre fibre writing review battery, yeah yeah it’s not like yeah beautiful
Walking in through the door it felt just like being at home. The lights and heating were on giving you that feeling of having just returned from the The Black Swan. A gorgeous, comfortable and inviting property set a stones throw from village life and local attractions. Gweek is a hidden gem in one of the best parts of Cornwall. You couldn’t want for anymore in a property and we were disappointed we had to leave at the end of our stay.

Exceptional cottage in a beautiful village
Old Mill House is a super house to spend a holiday. All aspects are catered for, and the host, Suzanne, left us lovely festive treats on arrival. Lots of walks, beaches & coves within a stones throw. We stayed over Christmas and the house was warm & cosy. Would fully recommend.

Nice house well aligned with the site description. Located in quiet area. Ideally located to visit south of Cornwall. Only things to improve are: get a regular size fridge as the small one doesn’t fit for a family and cleanliness of the kitchen. The rest is really enjoyable. Recommend it !

Great cottage and location for exploring Cornwall
Cottage very clean and well equipped. Lovely hamper of local essentials on arrival (scones, clotted cream ,jam, bread, milk, tea and coffee). Access down a very steep hill could be a bit daunting for those not used to it, however, in the end (we had three cars) we parked two cars at the top of the hill on the main road. Although two bathrooms, only one shower, given cottage sleeps 6 a second shower would have been better than just one. Plentiful selection of logs and fire lighters. Nice outdoor seating area in rear garden and in front. Fridge a little small and could have done with being larger. Oven clean and working and easy to use. Coffee machine very funky. A great location to visit beautiful Cornwall.

We really enjoyed our week in Gweek, the property was lovely. Really nice bedrooms, kitchen and lounge areas. My only negative would be that there wasn’t a huge amount of space in the kitchen or fridge to put food for people like us who want to cook for the week. Emptying some of the cupboards and installing a larger fridge in the back area by the bathroom would solve this. Gweek is a lovely little village, the pub is just down the road from the property and we enjoyed a lovely meal there, we also enjoyed fish and chips on the village green. A number of really good beaches are within a 15 min drive.

We enjoyed our stay here. Was in a good location to get to some lovely beaches! Helford river is worth a visit if you like paddle boarding/kayaking, great pub there too. A lovely cottage with everything you need. Our double bed was not the most comfortable and the shower tray was blocked. Suzanne dealt with this very quickly and efficiently to solve the problem. A lovely welcome pack was waiting for us when we got there (Scones, tea, coffee, jam, clotted cream, bread, milk & butter) everything you need after a long journey! Lovely touch. Was lovely seeing the cows most mornings in the field next to the garden too. Parking is a bit of a faff especially on a steep hill and a bit of a curve but we managed it ok.

Lovely cottage
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cottage in the pretty village of Gweek.. Ideally located, near to the village shop and pub the cottage looks out onto a field and is a short walk from the Helford estuary. The cottage is lovely with gorgeous antique furniture but modern kitchen and bathroom . We were able to explore the whole of the southern region of Cornwall, from Land’s End, to St Michael’s Mount to the Lizard and Kynance Cove. and also the beautiful Helford river valley. We only stayed for a week, I wish I’d booked two.

Lovely house, great place with super beaches nearby for SUP and surfing. Great mussels in Porthleven, great walks. House was very comfortable- really nice layout and fairly well equipped. Just needs a refresh of the crockery and glasses which were fine but felt out of place in such a nice home. Fully recommend
