Cosy cottage in the Blackdown hills, Devon
A very warm welcome to our our cosy 2 bedroom holiday cottage nestled in the heart of the Blackdown Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. This newly converted barn is welcoming and is furnished to a high standard with everything you need for a memorable holiday. Spacious open plan layout with well equipped kitchen area leading through to a comfortable lounge/dining area. Both bedrooms are ensuite and there is also a downstairs cloakroom. There is one king size bedroom with Juliet balcony overlooking open fields and the other bedroom contains a zip and link bed which can be configured as a king or 2 small singles (this bed will be set up as singles unless specifically requested otherwise). Private parking at the front and private courtyard garden with bbq (please note that charcoal is not provided and the bbq is available for use from april to october, unless specifically requested) and table and chairs at the rear. There is also a 6 person hot tub, incorporating 4 seats and 2 loungers, with views across the fields to the woodland beyond. Please note that we do not allow parties and as this is a destination for people to relax and recharge, we ask that noise is kept to a minimum after 10pm.
We are a rural location and wifi can sometimes be slow/intermittent.
Please note that the garden is not fully fenced at the rear, but is roped off only.
With such close proximity to nature it is likely that you will hear the nightly chorus of owls and see deer roaming in the fields. You can enjoy amazingly clear views of the night sky. Please note that there are 3 steps leading down from the cottage to the garden area. Also the property is situated in fields next to a working sheep farm and so unfortunately, we cannot accept pets. Within the grounds we have friendly chickens and at your request, freshly laid eggs can be provided on arrival. The nearest village, Dunkeswell is a 5 minute drive where you will find a well equipped grocery shop, Indian restaurant, bar and fish and chip shop. Dunkeswell airfield is situated at 839 feet above sea level making it the highest licensed airfield in the UK. The airfield is open to visitors throughout the year and offers 15000ft tandom skydives for thrill seekers! Contact us for further details of how to book ahead of your visit. The market town of Honiton is a 10 minute drive, offering numerous bars, restaurants and supermarkets, antique shops and boutiques. The beautiful Jurassic Coast is a short drive away, approx 30 minutes. Other local activities include Yarak Bird of Prey experience, Diggerland, and The Bear Trail , Devon muddiest family assault course so plenty to keep the kids occupied!
This cottage can be booked with our other cottage, Piglet Cottage, which is a 3 bedroom, to accomodate larger groups, at reduced rates. We shall also have our new dog friendly fully fenced cottage, Piggy in the Middle available in the new year, should you want to bring your furry friend along! All details available at Old Highwood Holiday cottages.
As a self-catering cottage, you'll find everything you need for a perfect stay.
