This is a very traditional Northern Michigan cabin, with modern amenities added! It has 1 bedroom and sleeps 6. The cabin also has a full bathroom and a full kitchen with a basic supply of cooking and dining utensils. It includes Wi-Fi, a live streaming television, outdoor furniture, and a private charcoal grill. The resort is located right on the gorgeous Platte River and the cabin rental includes use of the resort's two riverfront decks, bonfire ring, propane grill, and picnic table!
The property owners live next door to the cabins in a private home.
Sleeping Bear Riverside Cabins is right on US-31 as it goes through the small northern Michigan town of Honor. Honor does have a grocery store, a post office, a gas station, and a few restaurants, bars, stores, banks, and churches. Honor is also home to the famous Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater, which is still in operation each summer! The Cherry Bowl is also right on US-31 and it's less than one-half of a mile from Sleeping Bear Riverside Cabins! It provides for fun family entertainment each night during the summer!
The location of the resort right on US-31 is also very convenient for travel to nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse City, Interlochen, Beulah, Crystal Lake, Crystal Mountain, Frankfort, and Lake Michigan. The location really provides a wonderful and very convenient base from which to explore northern Michigan! :-)
Guests have access to all of the resort's outdoor amenities.
The cabin does have hot water! The kitchen includes a refrigerator, stovetop, oven, sink, cabinets, coffee maker, microwave, and a toaster.
It is recommended that guests have their own vehicle.
Sleeping Bear Riverside Cabins is a group of 5 traditional Northern Michigan cabins (with modern amenities) that are available for rent. The cabins are located right on US-31, with US-31 to the north of the cabins and the Platte River to the south of the cabins. The Platte River provides for gorgeous natural beauty as well as fun in the water!
Cabin #1 is all in one building, it is the largest cabin, and it sleeps the most people. Cabins #2 and #3 are private, but are in the same building (basically forming a duplex.) Similarly Cabins #4 and #5 are also private, but are again in the same building (again forming a duplex). The cabins are quite close to the road and there is some road noise, particularly with Cabins #1, #2, and #3, so if you are sensitive to road noise, then it might be best to stay elsewhere. Cabins #4 and #5 are closer to the water and they have lovely views of the river, but they are slightly smaller. Cabin #5 is probably most shaded, private, and secluded of the cabins. In terms of parking, parking is somewhat limited. For Cabin #1, there is space for up to 2 vehicles. For all of the other cabins, there is only space for 1 vehicle.
All of the cabins are heated and available for rent year-round! They all each have a living room, a kitchen with a basic supply of cooking and dining utensils, and a full bathroom. All of the cabins also have Wi-Fi access and a television with live streaming via Roku, including Hulu, Netflix, PureFlix, and Disney+. Cabins #1 and #4 have their television in the bedroom, whereas the other three cabins have their television in the living room. Cabin #3 has a cute and cozy electric fireplace in the living room. None of the cabins have air conditioning, but portable fans are provided in the cabins as needed during the summer months. All of the cabins each have their own private charcoal grill. We do not provide charcoal though.
Note that all of the cabins are dog-friendly! We allow up to 2 dogs with each reservation. More than 2 dogs or any other kind of pet is strictly prohibited. IF BRINGING 1 OR 2 DOGS, PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN THAT THEY ARE INCLUDED ON THE RESERVATION SO THAT THE PET FEE IS PROPERLY APPLIED!
On the grounds of the resort, there are several items that are shared among the 5 cabins and are available for guest usage:
* Two riverside decks with outdoor furniture for relaxing next to the Platte and enjoying its beautiful sights and sounds.
* An outdoor bonfire ring.
* A propane gas grill.
* An outdoor picnic table
The river provides for fun in the water! The river current is actually quite strong at the resort, but the river is fairly shallow. It is allows for a refreshing dip or walk in the river. It's not quite deep enough for swimming. It is possible to go fishing, kayaking, or canoeing right from the property! The riverfront is also great for just relaxing by the river, listening to the river gurgle, and watching wildlife, including kayakers, ducks, fish, blue jays, various other birds, deer, and even occasionally a bear! (For the record, we have only ever seen bears on the opposite side of the river and we've never seen them on the resort's property.) We do advise parents to be very careful with children since, although the river is quite shallow, the current is again also quite strong.
The property owners, Richard and Mary (an older couple), live next door. Note that they are politically conservative Christians who do share their views and at times there may be some political or Christian signs or flyers at the resort, emanating from a conservative Christian viewpoint. There is also a large cross on the grounds in memory and honor of the owners' son, Rick Haan, who passed away in September of 2019. (If you are offended by other people sharing their views, this again might not be the best place for you and you may wish to look elsewhere. ;-)
Note that the property is marketed on Airbnb by Agape Vacation Rentals, which is based out of nearby Beulah, Michigan. Agape Vacation Rentals only handles the marketing of the property though. Guest reservations and the physical management and cleaning of the property are managed by the property owners.
We think that the resort provides for comfortable and affordable housing in a great scenic location, which is close to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse City, Interlochen, Crystal Lake, Beulah, Crystal Mountain, Frankfort, and Lake Michigan! We invite you to book with us and hope that you do so! :-)
