Beachcomber Cottage, Waternish

Beachcomber cottage is a traditional fisherman's cottage next door to the Michelin star restaurant "LochBay", run by Michael Smith. It is also a minute's walk from the "Stein Inn" that celebrity chef Paul Rankin took over in 2019.
The accommodation warmly welcomes you with it's coal fire and traditional interior. There are 2 bedrooms, one shower room, and a kitchen/diner too, all that is needed for a very comfortable stay here on Skye.
Benefitting from a private garden to the front, across the road, heading down to the shore, facing west so sunsets here can be spectacular.
Waternish has a dark skies area where, on occasions when the atmospheric conditions are right, you can see the Aurora Borealis.
Come see for yourself!

Highly recommended
A lovely cottage in an excellent location.. Beautiful views of the shore( telescope provided). We were part of a terrace of traditional cottages alongside a pub, a craft shop/ gallery and a restaurant and there were lots of divers coming and going - so plenty going on. The kitchen was well designed and very well equipped . There was no file in the cottage to explain where things wwere. Because of this, we didn't discover the lovely garden across the road until our last day. And we spent some time searching for oven gloves andall of which were there, but that is the only quibble.AThe cottage was very well equipped and avbeautiful0place to return to after enjoying the wonderful landscapes of tSkyye. Mary An ideal place for people who want to be in beautiful surroundings? I really liked the decor And there are some beautiful pictures on the walls.

Sehr nettes Häuschen mit viel Charme/A very charming little house
The house has more than met our expectations. It is very nicely furnished and offers everything you need for a relaxing stay. The house is in a dead zone, but it has a very powerful Wi-Fi connection. The garden is very nice, with Adirondeck chairs from which you have a wonderful view of the water and the landscape. We travelled by electric car. The nearest charging station is a ten-minute walk away and unfortunately only provides 4 kW/h. But that's not a fault of the house...

Ideal Cottage in Beautiful Location
We loved our stay in Beachcomber Cottage. It was an ideal place to end our days and it had the same rural vibe as the rest of the Isle. Perfect for a family of four. It was very clean and well maintained with modern appliances in an otherwise traditional house with lots of history. Be sure to plan your arrival such that you arrive with all the groceries and supplies you will need, as Stein does not have anywhere to buy groceries or other necessities. The house came with plenty of dishes and silverware as well as paper towels and all detergents needed to operate the dishwasher and washing machine. Note there is no dryer, but a hanging rack is available as well as a clothes line in the garden if you feel adventurous. There is a hot water supply, but the shower is an electric shower which worked very well. If we ever come back to Skye, we would try to stay here again. The information about how to use some of the appliances is contained on a single tablet computer that was not working for us, so some physical instructions might be helpful as a backup. For example, there was some trial and error to get the washing machine to work as it is not obvious what tray to load the detergent for which cycle. It's a nice front-loader unit in the kitchen and luckily we are familiar with them, but the short cycles don't use enough water to dissolve a detergent pod. Most of the other appliances are also good quality and pretty self-explanatory, so it wasn't much of a problem.

A great cosy cottage in a beautiful location and only a few meters from a great pub The Stein Inn. The cottage was clean, easy to check in and had everything you’d need, even a fireplace. Would love to stay again.

Quaint cottage directly on the Loch Bay. Clean and comfortable. Garden with seating and table. Stone beach with water access. Found many pieces of colorful pottery and glassware! There are two restaurants, one is Loch Bay which is Michelin awarded. Weeks wait to get a reservation. The other is Stein. Reservations suggested. No other food, so stop at a Co-O prior to arriving!

Wonderful cottage in a picturesque peaceful setting on the water with a storybook view
This is a great VRBO! The cottage is set within a row of traditional fishermen’s cottages. The historical old cottages, although outfitted with modern amenities, provide a perfect backdrop for the serene picture perfect setting. The sunsets here are truly breathtaking and just being here makes you exhale all stress. The private gated garden which goes to the waterfront is wonderful too. A wonderful surprise is being next door to a Michelin star restaurant (also residing in one of the fisherman’s cottages). We were lucky to be able to eat here (get reservations in advance..Loch Bay). The food was perfectly prepared and presented in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Also a couple doors down in another of the fisherman’s cottages is the Stein Inn which has the oldest pub in Skye with a great traditional pub atmosphere and good food/drink. The host, Cat, was great! We had one small issue at check-in but Cat was quick to respond and we were grateful! We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer!

Absolutely loved the cottage and location. When the weather turned quite cool, the lounge room heating wasn’t operating at all so we replied to their welcome email with two messages for help. Received no reply. Everything else was wonderful.

A nice place, but...
The property is very well kept, well-appointed dishes and appliances, bathroom is nice, bedrooms are nice. But this note is particularly for Americans traveling in summer: The house has no A/C nor does it have any fans. This is not an issue in other seasons, but if you catch a summer that is warmer than usual (increasingly frequent in Scotland now), then it could be an issue. House owners there have not yet adapted to this fact, so this means almost no place has A/C or fans to assist with air movement. Bring your own portable battery powered fan. Secondly, the village of Stein is very remote by most American standards. Be prepared to navigate single track roads to get there, and bring in food at least for breakfast: there are 2 restaurants in Stein, but no store. Closest stores are in Portree or Dunvegan. It's a beautiful place and we enjoyed our time there; we just needed a fan...

Friends and I stayed at the Beachcomber for 3 nights of a 2 week trip in Scotland. Honestly, I would have been happy to spend the whole 2 weeks here. The stay was one of the highlights of the trip with the charming location, local history, surprising restaurant choices from historic inn to Michelin Star and gift shop with items by local artists. The cottage was over the top charming as well, with equipped kitchen, lots of info on surrounding area, clean, comfortable, can't say enough good things. I will happily return if possible!

Lovely Fishing Cottage
This cottage was very well set-up, for us- great heat (we were there in Feb.), well-equipped, nice furnishings, and overall very comfy. We enjoyed the coal fire in the living room very much! The location is wonderful, just across the little road from the loch, and also it was very quiet. We would have appreciated a notebook of instructions in addition to or instead of the video set-up, which was NOT so convenient for looking up answers to questions, (and also totally puzzling to us at the beginning), and we never did figure out the tv. Nevertheless, we would happily go back!

We had a fantastic stay at the Beachcomber Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage with modern appliances along with original architecture throughout the cottage itself. The two bedrooms are spacious and beds were comfortable. Water pressure was good and toiletries were provided along with plenty of towels. The location is spectacular with views out over Loch Bay from the private garden.

Best location , we couldn’t be happier. Amazing view and wonderful usable yard. All amenities we could want. We had so much fun here and will likely return. The cottage is close to a pier so we got to watch boats come and go as well as families sail and fish. Rise of tide was fun to watch as well. Local flora and fauna was amazing as were all the sheep about.. we at at both of the local restaurants and enjoyed them , unique and small ,local fish places. Shower was hot and water pressure was wonderful. Great place for morning walks, coffee out front on the bench. Love the the views from the road as we drove in and out. Check out local shops , especially Skyesyns. The tannery is at the top of the hill. So cool!

This is a wonderfully cozy cottage near the end of the earth! We particularly liked the feel of the historic with the convenience of the modern. Very nicely done! Learned a bit about the history of the estate from the folks at the Stein Inn. Would love to learn more. This is definitely the place to get away from the crowds.

A wonderful stay at the Cottage Beachcomber
We have spent 3 days at the Cottage Beachcomber, Waternish. 3 magic days. The cottage is very cosy, warm and confortable. We really felt home Although the weather was not terrific, we could enjoy the garden across the small road and the scenic view over the loch. The cottage is located just between two nice places for dinner: the Michelin awarded Loch Bay restaurant (There was no availability, reservation required several weeks ahead of time) and the excellent Stein Inn. In brief, the best memory of our 2w trip across Scotland.
