I would buy this property in a heartbeat! It is amazing. It is located on the high side of a hill at the end of a dead-end circle. We stayed there over the week of Christmas and saw no sign of any other humans within 500 yards. All of the neighbors were gone, so we had the whole driveway and road to ourselves (it was awesome for sledding). We rented snowmobiles from a place in town and we could literally ride them straight from the rental place to the cabin to the Greys River trail head (about 2 minutes away) to the gas station and back without ever having to load them on a trailer or ride them on anything but snow. It was THE BEST!
The cabin itself was very well kept, well stocked, bigger than we expected, and cozy. The heated floors are SO GREAT! We lit the fireplaces more for ambiance and atmosphere than for the heat. The huge cast iron antique tub was FANTASTIC! The floor plan is open, but there are 2 nice bedrooms for those times when you want to get away from the crowd for a bit. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean, and well organized. The lot is covered in beautiful trees and the snow was beautiful and just picture perfect. The views of the mountains were amazing as well. Alpine has most everything you need as far as gas, groceries, hardware store, etc; the only thing we had to leave town for was to drive 20 minutes to Etna to go to church on Christmas Day (Etna is the closest congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) which was powerful, spiritual, and wonderful; super friendly people who were welcoming and warm.
The only recommendations I would make to improve our stay would be: a bit more lighting in the kitchen area (it was a bit too dim when we were trying to prepare meals); a new mattress on the big king
-sized bed in the loft (it is really sunken in the middle). Also, there are some dangers to be aware of if you are bringing kids: 1) the loft area at the top of the stairs is not entirely closed off and a toddler could definitely fall and get hurt unless you find a way to block it off; 2) there are some gaps on the bottom of some of the outdoor balcony railings that look big enough for a child to slip under and potentially fall.
Oh, also, the door locks on the 2 downstairs bedroom doors were broken so we could not lock them for privacy.
Again, total 5 star experience for us, and the “cons” were very small and manageable. We will definitely be looking at staying here again. Thanks Shawn!
