About this property

Original 1890's log cabin on horse ranch with hot tub, walking distance to town.

Soak up the history of Kernville Ranch in the all natural cedar hot tub after snow play, watch the horses frolic in the fields gazing out at two mountain ranges. Snuggle together with unlimited fire wood. Plunge into or practice your casting in our private river (Runs seasonally April through December). Originally built in the 1890s, Nestled in over 14 acres of water meadow, Mountain View is the original ranch house.

This charming house exudes authenticity, with its log cabin walls and a stacked stone fireplace. The heart of the home is the spacious KITCHEN, thoughtfully equipped with modern electric appliances for your convenience. It caters to cooking enthusiasts with a well-stocked selection of spices, herbs, serving platters, and specialized tools like citrus reamers or simple cork screws.

Outside the kitchen, a private red brick patio entry area. dine outside under ten thousand stars, a round Moroccan tile table with seating for four. A charcoal grill is also available on this front deck.

Upstairs, the MAIN BEDROOM offers a comfortable queen bed and a cozy sitting area with a TV. The windows frame views of the front garden, majestic shade trees, and the eastern mountains in the changing light.

The SECOND BEDROOM, divided by the stairs, has a full double bed on one side and a twin bed that can transform into a small sofa on the other.

The LIVING ROOM, generously-sized and designed for family gatherings, centers around the wood-burning fireplace, making it an ideal spot for board games and cozy evenings. On the opposite end of the room is another seating area beneath the window, great for the weekend's puzzle or peaceful reading nook. Plenty of sofas to lounge on when enjoying family movie nights on the large TV.

We provide endless firewood for the cold nights, cut from the many shade trees on the ranch. We have very effective evaporation coolers that keep the house cool on the very hottest of days in the summer. The heating and cooling provided by the power sourced from a local hydroelectric turbine, aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

We have two work desks and excellent WiFi for zooming to work while you relax in the mountains with us.

You have complete and private access to all interior areas photographed.

You are welcome to explore the fenced grounds of Kernville Ranch. Take a soothing dip in our all-natural cedar hot tub, plunge into our seasonal private rivers' swimming hole (April through December), experience the thrill of the zip line, and feel free to use firewood from the woodpile for cozy evenings.

The ranch spans about 15 acres, featuring two additional available listings. This is the Mountain View. Meadowlands Cottage is attached to this house through corridor off the kitchen with a locked and insulated door. Meadowlands Cottage is one bedroom listing that can be rented separately. We encourage guests to connect with fellow vacationers. I hope you get a chance to meet Reid, a retired sheriff, during your stay. He tends the ranch daily and runs One Spade Youth Packers, a charity that fosters a sense of community. For larger groups, consider renting the entire ranch for an exclusive experience.

While exploring our ranch please exercise caution and common sense. These areas contain tractors and farm equipment essential for ranch operations.

My husband and I are thrilled to share Kernville Ranch's enchantment with others. Our approach is a delicate one – we renovated the house and its surroundings to offer families a comfortable and enjoyable experience while safeguarding the historical charm of the Ranch, where wildlife thrives.

The magic of our property may reveal itself in unexpected ways. Perhaps a herd of deer will grace you with their presence as you witness the sunset over the water meadows. Or your children may frolic through the mint field, their hands cradling a new found frog. Nature and wildlife will undoubtedly make their presence known during your stay.

Here at our ranch, we are home to horses and mules, and a gentle seasonal river flows through our land. Abundant water keeps our grounds lush and green. Above the river we have expansive lawns and towering shade trees, providing a welcome respite from the heat.

Separated by the babbling brook that meanders through the property (Runs seasonally April through December), the remainder of the ranch opens into flood meadows where horses and mules roam freely. Ducks, herons, and ospreys grace our skies, painting a picturesque scene against the backdrop of pink-hued mountains. It truly is a place of remarkable beauty.

Wonderful Place to Stay
This cabin is a great place to stay. Well appointed, clean, and comfortable. My grandson and I went to Kernville for a fishing trip and found this property to be a great home base. I haven't slept this well for a long time. Located a 2 minute drive from town, it gives easy access to dining and the road along the river. I would highly recommend this property.

Honest Constructive Critique: Great Location but Misleading Descriptions and Maintenance Issues
My family stayed at Kernville Ranch for five nights & had a mixed experience. Cons: - Discrepancies between the listing descriptions/photos & the actual state of the property. - Dry, unmaintained lawns around cabin & cottage, contrary to "lush" descriptions/photos in the listing. - No swimming hole or access to the Kern River, despite the listing emphasizing these with misleading terms like "communal pool," "pool available," "on a river," "on the waterfront." - Scattered trash, sticks, & piles of dead branches, making the property difficult & unpleasant to walk. - Mice in the cottage & mice nests found in the armchairs. - Several bats were found roosting in the roof eaves outside the bedroom window & hundreds more in the trees right next to the cabin, posing a potential health hazard. Pros: - Spacious & peaceful property, offering a nice retreat from city life. - Enjoyable interactions with horses and mules. - Relaxing hot tub. - Comfortable beds. - Well-stocked with essentials. - Great location. Close to town, Kern River, Lake Isabella - Responsive host. Conclusion: The property has great potential, but improvements & more accurate descriptions are needed because our experience was nothing like what is described in the listing. If you're looking for a convenient base to explore local attractions, this rental would work well. However, if you plan to spend most of your time on the property like we did enjoying the swimming hole and "waterfront," you will be disappointed.

Great get away
Minutes from shopping and restaurants in kernville and secluded enough to enjoy the silence. The cedar hot tub over looking the horse pasture was fun. The place was well stocked with everything we needed and the host was very responsive. With family living close by we will be staying again.

A Dreamy Forest Ranch Retreat
I cannot express how much i enjoyed this property. Everything inside is very cabine themed and visually appealing/cohesive. Adorable property. I loved spending my afternoons visting with the horses and mules and handing out on the hammock. The sunsets were oh so pretty. This place truly felt like an escape from day to day life, where you could just escape from the normal rush and world, all while still having excellent cell service and wifi. I was in town for work, and this made my time feel like a vacation anyway. Amelia is a gracious and kind host, and quickly responds to concerns or questions. I immensely enjoyed my time here and have already booked my next stay!

One night retreat
This property is so dreamy! A cozy cabin with all you ask for. Crisp sheets, soft towels, plenty of throw blankets to warm up with if you enjoy the outdoors. The hot tub was perfect for an evening soak under the stars. The property was easy to find and located close to everything we wanted to see while in Kernville. My husband and I are looking forward to returning and taking advantage of the fire pit/grill and spending more time at the property.

Spider web was hanging on the ceiling. The ceiling was too low over the bed and my husband head knocked the wood on the ceiling every time he tried to get up. It wasn’t enough beds. Outdoor furniture was too old and disgusting and so much more I don’t want to remember……..
