Dating back over 200 years, Half Penny Cottage has been tastefully restored by the owners to maintain the charm and period features that you would expect to find in a cottage with such impressive heritage, while ensuring that all the modern conveniences remain, which are required for a great stay. The cottage is set in the picturesque village of Docking. It is constructed of local Norfolk flint, faced with mellow Holkham brick, and boasts exposed oak beams in many of the rooms, along with an open fire in the living room. Docking itself is within a quiet conservation area, just 6 miles from the bustling village of Burnham Market and 4 miles from Brancaster, with its beautiful beach. Beach lovers will be very pleased that they’ve chosen this part of Norfolk, as the stretch of coastline that runs from Wells-next-the-Sea, with it’s picturesque quay to Snettisham, with it’s RSPB Nature Reserve, is blessed with numerous beaches, quays and marshes, offering a new seascape for every day. There are lots of pretty coastal villages, offering great places to eat and drink and little artisan shops. Those seeking all the fun of the fair should head to Hunstanton, known locally as ’Sunny Hunny’, where the beach seems to go on forever, and you will find a Sealife Centre, traditional seaside amusements and a small fun fair. Heritage lovers will also be spoilt for choice with The Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Blickling Hall, the Old Quarter of hanseatic Kings Lynn and Norwich, with its numerous museums and Norman Castle, all within easy reach. Those who know Norfolk will also know that it presents the opportunity for some of the best birdwatching in the UK. When you add in glorious coastal walks and great cycle routes, you will soon see why Royal Norfolk remains as popular as ever and indeed why Half Penny Cottage is such a hit with guests.
