Nickey’s Nest is a log home mountain retreat located just off Rt. 220 between Laporte and Dushore, in the endless mountains of northeast PA. Nickey’s Nest is centrally located between Rickett's Glen and World's End state parks, so you can choose a trip to either within a short scenic drive. If you are looking for a quieter ‘Pocono’ experience without the traffic jams, neon signs and high prices, try an Americana experience of the small towns, parks and activities of Sullivan County. Tucked nicely in the woods, Nickey’s Nest is within a short driving distance to State Game Lands #13, #66 and 57 for those interested in hunting turkey, bear and deer. There is a good chance you will see all kinds of wildlife in the surrounding area. You can enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature while sitting on the back deck or the large front porch swinging on an Outer Banks Hammock swing or on large comfortable rockers. Hike the quiet red shale roads that run through the Lost Lake development, or enjoy a mesmerizing campfire in the fire pit with friends and/or family. For those seeking adventure, Rickett’s Glen has a falls trail of 24 waterfalls and a drop from the top of the mountain, at an approximate elevation of 2446 feet, to Rt. 118, at an elevation of approximately 760 feet. Hiking shoes and a hiking staff, along with water and snacks are a prerequisite for a good day on the trail. Other hikes along the Loyalsock Creek or on the Loyalsock Trail cam provide pleasant hike through the woods to the Haystacks (a large group of boulders in the creek), Dutchman falls or Canyon Vista above World’s End State Park. The Loyalsock Creek and Muncy Creek (at the base of the mountain) are excellent trout streams along with those embedded throughout forest and waterways of the county. There are several wineries throughout the surrounding county from which you can sample and purchase their wines. As you travel the country roads, you will find unique shops from antiques, farm goods and local arts and crafts to pique your interest. Throughout the year, there are local fairs and festival going right into December. Cross country skiing is quite popular in the area, and here in Lost Lake, if you have three or four inches on the ground, you can ski right from the front porch around the development! If fishing and boating is your thing, Sone’s Pond, Hunter’s Lake, Lake Jean and the Susquehanna are but a short drive away. Swimming is great in Lake Jean at Rickett’s Glen State Park which also has a concession stand.
The log home has three bedrooms: a king sized bed, a queen sized bed and two bunk beds. The kitchen is fully equipped with most of the utensils, pots and pans, dishes and glasses one would find in their own home. A refrigerator/freezer, electric stove, microwave and coffee pot and electric grill are available for your use. The dining area is cheerfully lit and spacious. Videos and music are available to watch and listen to. Though the home has electric heat as back-up, a propane furnace has been installed for the fall, winter and Spring seasons. Many people prefer the use of the wood stove with the glass door for viewing the fire for a cozy experience. The home has been whole house air conditioned for your comfort.
